Alex and ahmed are class! (Animation team) loved our stay

Just came back from a week away at this hotel its the second time goin to this hotel and it's awesome the staff are great always willing to help you rooms was also very good. And also i love food haha the food here is great something different everynight The staff in the upstairs hotel are wicked whenever they seen my glass empty they would be there with a refill in seconds the ANIMATION TEAM are really good at what they do and also very well mannerd cant wait for next year to see alex and ahmed 5star in my eyesMore

Holiday in Sharm el Sheikh

10 great nights in the hotel Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay hotel. This is a little hotel with a lot of love, clean tidy and plenty of hard working staff. All staff from management to maintenance have been lovely nothings been too much trouble. Reception have Mohamed very informative kind and very helpful. The bedroom domestic Mohamed has been a true gentleman and is worth his weight in gold we thank you for your kindness you have been amazing😘 xx. Micheal and all of the team in the restaurant have been attentive, kind and really looked after us thanks guys you have a great staff team😍. Top bar top blokes great cocktails thanks 😙xx The Animation team are crazy funny and very lively, there is never a dull moment and they never moan 😊 always happy to help. If you visit Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay be sure to just ask and any staff will point you in the right direction or take you there themselves. A nice stay

We have just returned from Sol y Mar Sharks Bay where we stayed for 11 days. On arriving at the hotel I was disappointed by our ROOM which was not at all like any on the thomson website, which look lovely and modern. I got over this eventually as the room was clean and did its purpose (they are rooms with a bed and a TV - all you really need!). On arriving our bags were taken to the room by the hotel bell boy who tried to 'give us a tour' of the hotel (pointed in the direction of the restaurant, didn't actually show us the door). When we got to our room he waited around for a tip (to be expected in Egypt as the wages are not enough and the staff do rely heavily on tips). At this time, as we had just landed we didn't have any change and only had our travel money which was in 200s. We told him that we would find him later and he insisted that he had change for us, obviously not wanting to leave the room. In the end he did give us change but the smallest he gave us was a 50(£5) which we had to give for him to leave - this was a mistake as when we saw him to next day and I smiled, he completely ignored me, he had gotten his tip so didn't need to do anything else!! The FOOD is nice and there is definitely enough to find something for everyone (I am a vegetarian and also very very picky and I found something) however it does get very samey so I was very bored by the end of the 11 days. They do have 'themed' nights but the only thing that really changes is the main meal cooked at the chefs station and this is always meat (there were 2 nights where I was able to eat what the chef was cooking). The WAITORS in the restaurant, in the upstairs lobby bar and the pool bar are amazing! They work such long hours in the ridiculous heat and never fail to smile or joke with you. Mohammed at the pool bar and Peter in the main restaurant are particularly great. The ANIMATION TEAM are also fab, we were lucky to have 4 animation members when we first arrived but one of the girls soon left to go back home, then Mina arrived and he was brilliant, he made friends with everybody! Alex and Ahmed were also fab and Marina was always walking round the pool in the morning having little chats with everybody and making sure everyone had something to do during the day if they wanted. I RECOMMEND that you get involved with the morning waterpolo game. I didn't get involved until 3 days before I left and regretted it - not one for children but it was so fun! Mohamed at the Reception was amazing! He was always there with a big smile every time he saw me! And never got fed up when I went back every other day to say the key had stopped working or I had locked myself out!! TIPS FOR GUESTS * Have change on you as soon as you arrive to tip - you can give £ * If you are with thomson, book the Hard Rock Cafe Gold Menu - you will get bored of the food and the hard rock cafe in Nabq is amazing! * Safe can be unco-operative, set the password with the safe empty before you lock it and cant open * The pool staff (who are fab) will try to sell you a lilo, this has been left by the pool or given to them by guests who are leaving - make sure you get a good price for it - they got it for nothing! *The drinks can be very very strong at nice - be careful!More

Lovely hotel. Fantastic staff

Just returned from 11 fantastic days at the Sol y Mar hotel at Sharks Bay and would like to say a massive thank you to the staff at the hotel for helping to create probably the best holiday of my life.  The hotel is located close to the main road between Nabq Bay and Naama Bay and is close to the airport - for people travelling with Thomson - don't waste money booking a transfer - email the hotel and they will arrange a taxi at half the price. The hotel is not by the sea but a free bus service takes you to the sister hotel in Naama Bay. Because we spent 4 days scuba diving we didn't bother to use this facility. The hotel is small by Sharm standards which provides a much greater opportunity to interact with the staff. By the end of the first day we pretty much knew them all by name and likewise they welcomed us by name at each interaction which made us feel special and looked after.  The bar staff worked tirelessly through the day and night in very high temperatures and constantly provided us with drinks to our sunbeds. They were fantastically efficient and friendly and kept the bar and snack area clean and tidy. It would be wrong to single out anyone in particular as they were all brilliant, but Michael's cheeky personality, charm and exuberance made him a shining star.  Days round the pool were brought to life by the fantastic animation team. I don't know how they found the energy to keep going all day and night - constantly encouraging guests to join in with activities - dartes, aqua-gym, water polo, table tennis, Arabic lessons and of course the funny (if not slightly cringe-worthy) evening entertainment. They were all brilliant but I have to say to Alex - managing to get my 13 year old who usually prefers to watch from the side lines where holiday activities are concerned, to actually join in with Aqua-gym was the equivalent of turning water in to wine! Well done that man! Meals are served in the main restaurants with sufficient tables and length of service to make them feel relaxed and unhurried. Choice of food was very good and presentation was impeccable. Always plenty of choice and lots of healthy salad and fresh bread. Local Egyptian food was available every day (their mini honey and nut pastries were heavenly) and a good variety of other dishes - pasta, chicken, fish, rice, chips, vegetables, desserts etc. The chefs who do the live-cooking were efficient and produced lovely food - the omlettes and pancakes at breakfast were to die for. The waiting staff did an amazing job and soon learnt my preferred drinks and supplied them plentifully (sometimes too plentifully - hic!). Saied was an angel sent to look after us and when he went on vacation after a week we were very sad. However - apprentice angels Mina and Mohamed and Peter took his place and made sure our every need was catered for.   The rooms were very comfortable and I think the beds were the most comfortable I have ever had in Egypt. The air conditioning was sometimes too efficient and we actually had to turn it off at times! It was however a welcome relief from the 46c heat! Our housekeeper for the stay was Mohammed. He quietly and unobtrusively provided a brilliant service every day. Cleaning, tidying up after us, producing amazing towel-art and checking if we needed anything. He regularly helped my daughter open the room door - there was a special knack to opening it easily and he eventually taught her the secret! The room was spotless after he had finished every day - to be returned to chaos 5 minutes after he had left! The rooms are of adequate size with a tv, fridge, hairdryer and plenty of electrical sockets. The bathroom is basic but with a decent size shower and basin and plenty of room for toiletries to be stored etc. We rarely had the need to ask the help of the reception staff but when we did they were efficient and helpful and friendly. I would add that unlike the freezing air conditioning in the rooms, the temperature in the reception and upstairs bar was sometimes a little warm. On most occasions Michael and his friends at the bar upstairs had seats ready for us at the bar -which was the coolest place - and also the funniest place to sit as we were able to engage with the staff as they worked and provided some seriously amusing entertainment.  The security staff were barely noticable - which is how I would want them to be - but the overall feeling of the hotel was very safe and secure. I have travelled extensively just with my daughter since she was a baby and in some places have felt quite vulnerable. Not so at this hotel. It was a very relaxed environment but never did we feel that anything  bad could happen in the hotel.  Management - it was clear that the managers wanted everyone to enjoy their stay. They constantly asked for feedback and checked that we had no problems. The lovely Maria always available looking polished and perfect even in the heat by the pool. Nothing was too much trouble.  However - the hotel seem to have a very strange management style. Maybe it's not peculiar to them - maybe it's more of a cultural way. There seems to be multiple layers of management in the different areas of the hotel. Some - like Luca - were friendly and engaged with guests and helped their staff, others were stony-faced and never even smiled at guests let alone help them or their staff. On several occasions Abdo berated the bar staff in front of guests and although I don't speak Arabic it was obvious by his body language and volume and tone of his voice that they were being severely spoken to. Of course if there  is a problem then it needs addressing - but not in this manner and not in front of guests.  I only add this last comment because the manager needs to understand that the general hard working staff are his biggest asset, and he needs to look after them or they will go and work elsewhere and guests will not pay return visits. Hope this is helpful to anyone thinking of visiting this hotel. We would definitely recommend it and hopefully we will return next year.  More

Animation team and bar staff make our holiday special!!

Just returned from an 8 night stay. This was our first trip to Egypt and would definately return but would choose a more central hotel where you can walk out for a change of scenery. At this hotel the location means you rely on a shuttle bus or taxis to get you around. What makes this hotel is the excellent staff who work so hard to ensure you have a good time. After an initial problem with our room we were promptly moved to a new room which was fine. We stayed in room 309 which was cleaned daily and wonderful towel art from a very friendly young cleaner. Animation team work so hard to keep guests entertained. Alex, Ahkmed, Uno and Marianna do a wonderful job and always speak to guests and always happy and full of life!! (Alex, I want you to learn me how to dance. You blew me away with your moves!!).Food was fine and restaurant staff always on hand to bring drinks etc. Bar staff were fantastic both outside and in the Marlin bar. I have to mention Mohammed Magdi who is so full of life and always joking and made us laugh constantly!! Reception staff are a bit hit and miss and tell you different things but overall we had a great holiday!!More
