This hotel opened its doors in 2009, so it has a modern, fresh feel. The bedrooms are a case in point – they’re cool and contemporary, decorated in stylish light pastel colours. Slick touches include air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars.
Outside, this low-level hotel fans out around a good-sized swimming pool. If you’re coming in the winter months, it’s worth pointing out the pool’s heated at this time of year. The surrounding sun terrace is decked out with cushioned loungers and the fledgling palms are beginning to take shape. If you prefer the beach, the hotel runs a shuttle service down to Naama Bay and private beach.
On the food front, it’s an All Inclusive affair – with breakfast, lunch and dinner taken care of, buffet-style. If you like a lie-in, you’ll be pleased to know the hotel lays on breakfasts up until 11.00 in the morning. Plus, afternoon tea and late-night snacks are all part of the package. And if you fancy a seafood supper under the stars, there’s also an outdoor à la carte restaurant here - it’s worth paying that little bit extra for.

My review is a little late but we stayed here in September 2013 for a week and we are just looking at booking up to come back this year. The staff we ALL great from Mo on reception and Rambo the cleaner, they could not do enough for you. The hotel rooms were spotless and all the other areas of the hotel. I would most definitely recommend this hotel to anybody, thanks to the lovely people this was one of the best holidays I have had. We cannot wait to come back and have another amazing holiday here :)More

Negatives outweigh the positives for us..
This hotel had so many amazing reviews on Tripadvisor that convinced us to book. Hotel Some will say this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, which is it - but we were fine with that. There is a purpose built shopping/bar/restaurant area at Soho Square which was 100 egyptian pounds return in a taxi. Expensive place, but nice to get out and about. * Wifi ONLY in lobby and ONLY for 150mb per room. More data available at a HIGH cost * Lobby area very very nicely decorated. Hotel small. Lots of sun beds which were always available - no need to reserve at silly o'clock! Entertainment Bless, they do try, but it was dire. Some evenings I was literally cringing with embarrassment for the poor boys being put through it!! Food/drink Only one restaurant which was more like a school dinner hall. We are not fussy eaters but there was minimal things I could find to eat each day. Food recycled often. Partner reported beer was awful. I tried wine once and not again. Local spirits the usual - either not strong enough or too strong! Not a lot of snacks available at the pool. Afternoon tea advertised but was not set out most days. * ONE bottle of water is provided for you - after that it is chargeable. This, to me, is the very essence of the hotel - has a label of 'all inclusive', but it is the most basic of all inclusive packages * Rooms Rooms ok, sun didn't get to our balcony (we were in a 300). Rooms cleaned daily to an ok standard. We seemed to get a knock at our door almost every day outwith housekeeping times - and if the door wasn't answered it was opened by the staff. Staff Some of the staff really make this hotel, some really let it down. Ahkmed (entertainment), Walid (bar), Baboosh (not sure of spelling!)(entertainment) Hussein (Restaurant), Luka (restaurant manager) were all fab. The staff coming around the pool daily selling massages/papers/trips were particularly bad - did not leave you alone and sat themselves on your lounger to tell you all about the massages/facials etc - even after telling them no thank you. During our stay there was a game of 'wrestling people into the pool' by some of the staff. This at times got quite violent with crowds of the guests gathering and taking pictures/videos on their phone. This, to me, is unacceptable from staff and shows how unprofessional they are at times. Overall Positives - very close to airport for a quick transfer - small but with plenty of sun beds available - some of the staff absolutely fantastic, seemed like lovely genuine young guys. Enjoyed finding out about their culture/beliefs and plans for their futures! Negatives - One bottle of water per stay - this is laughable really for a country that was hitting 32degrees in April. - Staff selling things around pool - Food choice/quality - Entertainment - Wifi We feel overall this hotel is fine for what we paid, and if you are looking for a bargain quiet holiday then this is it. However, for us, it wasn't the usual standard that we were used to.More

The hotel is small and contained which will please those who dread big hotels. Everything is arranged around the pool. Staff are friendly and helpful, although this varies among them. Adam is a great guy to find out about excursions and anything else you need to know. Very friendly and personable. In the restaurant, after a few days, Hussain and Mahmoud would get us our drinks exactly as we liked them and were always super helpful. We found Whalid (pool drinks and bar in the evening) always attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Example: I wanted an American coffee after lunch. Restaurant staff told me that it was only available for breakfast. Then while I was sitting by the pool, I asked Whalid if he could get me one and immediately brought me one. The food is good particularly the 'Egyptian' section and the salads are varied. Breakfast is also very good (except for the bread section, which is mostly white bread, but the croissants were really nice). At meal times do not bother with wine - it's undrinkable, the beer is much better. By the pool, if you want to see the sunset you need to be opposite the pool bar (ish). The wifi is ok and we even managed to get it in the room. I did one excursion to Ras Mahmud (the national park) and it was well worth it. I did the simple one (£34) with A to B Travel and was worth the money. The coral reef and array of fish were amazing. I wished I had done more. The guys on the boat take you to three different snorkelling sites and even people who couldn't swim went snorkelling with their help, life jackets and other safety gear. Lunch on boat was very nice too. There is a guy Karim who takes a video of the trip including under water so if you fancy seeing yourself snorkelling among coloured fish it will costs you £17 and they deliver it the following day. The only regret about this holiday is the fact that we were mislead by our travel agency - we were told that the hotel had their own beach. That is not true! You can catch a free shuttle from the hotel which leaves at 8.30, 9.30 and 11. There are late pick ups too. The shuttles takes you to the Jaz Resort. The beach is ok, not one of the best I have seen in Egypt, but ok. There is a jetty from where you can do some snorkelling. You are allowed to use their drink bar and snack if you are on all inclusive but the choice is very limited (burger, hot dog or pizza). I had two meals there and both were below average. You cannot use the pool facilities. If the hotel was on the beach I would have rated it higher. As other reviewers mentioned, there is music by the pool most of the day and it is loud. Bring your ear plugs or headphones :-) But if you like animation, the guys by the pool will entertain you with their water aerobics and water polo. If you want to do some shopping at Naama Bay is cheap but people will hassle you continuously to get into their shops. At Soho Square you will not get hassled at all but you will pay twice as much. The choice is yours!More

Think travelling alone is boring? Think again!
Well, in my case, the boredom of being a solo traveller was pretty much reduced to nil by the friendliness and hospitality at this place. It really doesn't matter if you're at the pool, reception or bar, there is always someone there to help and serve you with a shining smile on their face. As you've probably read in other reviews, it's the excellence of service that makes this little place a 5* jewel. The design of the place is (if memory serves) a big pentagon, with the big pool at the center and all the rooms surrounding it. This means that all rooms have a pool view. The rooms are distributed over three levels, from the bottom there are the pool level rooms, ground level rooms and the 1st floor level rooms. Of-course the higher level your room is the better view (and less noise) you'll get. The rooms themselves are clean and cosy, all the utilities (including the AC) work perfectly, enough said. The food is excellent, specially for the paleo-dieters out there. You'll usually get a choice of beef or chicken, a range of cooked & raw veggies, and also choices of raw, cut or juiced fruits. For non-paleo, there is still a wide selection of tasty-looking baked stuff and a fascinating selection of deserts for your sweet tooth :). As for drinks, well, you've got your alcoholic & non- alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea ... everything you'd want basically. The pool has multiple depth levels ranging from ~0.5m to ~2.0m. The Jacuzzi is at the center of this big pool, which also serves as a children's pool (when the adults are out). The pool (Dolphin) bar is just in-front of the pool, you can take your coffee, tea or juice to where your family is and keep an eye on your kids in the pool while enjoying your beverage. There is also a small library (near the towel room) for when you feel like reading after a swim. If all that is not enough, the activity team will make sure you get up and engage in their morning stretches, water polo game or any of their other activities. Any outside activity you'd like to try can always be arranged at the reception, whether it's diving, water skating, or just going places (Naama Bay or Soho Sq.) the receptionist is always there to assist you.Oh and make sure you catch the night shows at the bar, with various artists who'll surely give your phone a memory warning from all the video shooting you'll do :). As an end note i'd like to thank all the beautiful people at Sol Y Mar for making this a memorable stay. Thanks to: Ibrahim, Ahmed & Maged(Reception). Luka (Bar & Dining Manager). Waleed & Alex (Bartender & Waiter). And all the other hard working people there.More

Fantastic week at Sol y Mar Sharks Bay!
We had never been to Egypt and after looking through many hotels chose the sol y mar sharks bay and were definitely not disappointed. We were nervous that because it was so close to the airport the planes would be very noisy but to be honest we didn't notice it. Everyone at the hotel is very friendly and always asking for feedback on how you find your rooms, the pool and the food. We didn't have any problems but if you did, it definitely seemed like they were do their best to fix it for you. The buffet had a good variety and cooked well. We were introduced to so many people I can't remember everyone's name but Luka the restaurant manager is great and his team are fantastic. Ahmad and Baboosh were the animation team and they definitely made our holiday! Ahmad introduced himself to my partner and I on our first night and 'promised' not to get us up but he did anyway and we are so glad he did. Water polo and killer darts were such fun plus the animation shows in the evening were great! Adam comes round the pool to show you some trips that you can do, he is very well informed and we did the snorkelling trip and the quadbiking and stargazing trip. We thoroughly enjoyed both trips but definitely loved the desert trip the most it was amazing! Overall we made such great friends here and the staff work so hard, the hotel is great value for money.
