Hotel Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay

The Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay offers up contemporary rooms and All Inclusive dining. There's a large pool, too, and a shuttle bus that'll run you down to the hotel's private beach.

This hotel opened its doors in 2009, so it has a modern, fresh feel. The bedrooms are a case in point – they’re cool and contemporary, decorated in stylish light pastel colours. Slick touches include air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars.

Outside, this low-level hotel fans out around a good-sized swimming pool. If you’re coming in the winter months, it’s worth pointing out the pool’s heated at this time of year. The surrounding sun terrace is decked out with cushioned loungers and the fledgling palms are beginning to take shape. If you prefer the beach, the hotel runs a shuttle service down to Naama Bay and private beach.

On the food front, it’s an All Inclusive affair – with breakfast, lunch and dinner taken care of, buffet-style. If you like a lie-in, you’ll be pleased to know the hotel lays on breakfasts up until 11.00 in the morning. Plus, afternoon tea is part of the package. And if you fancy a seafood supper under the stars, there’s also an outdoor à la carte restaurant here - it’s worth paying that little bit extra for.

Wonderful Holiday

Just returned from 12 days at this lovely hotel. My first time in Egypt so was not sure what to expect. Unfortunately myself and my grandson were ill on arrival with chest infections (nothing to do with Egypt or the hotel) The care we received was exceptional. I ordered anti-biotics at reception on arrival and they were delivered within an hour costing only £4. We had to see the doctor a couple of days later for further treatment and met with Dr. Mohammed. He was superb and could not do enough to look after us. He has now become a real friend. The staff were the same. We had a lovely room boy called Aziz who brought me hot drinks and checked every day if everything was OK. Mido from the perfume shop made me herbal drinks and sent them to my room. They were all fantastic. I cannot understand some of the previous reviews. The only thing I can say is that I coould probably have pin-pointed the people who wrote these reviews, so enough said! The food was great. Each meal time there were 2 hot stations where food was cooked fresh. At breakfast there was a pancake station plus an egg station where you could order omelettes, fried or poached eggs. At other meal times, there was always a pasta station plus another freshly cooked option. This could include beautiful roast chicken, baked salmon - even beef wellington. Other hot options included lasagne, cannelloni, gorgeous beef straganoff, steak pie witeh pastry, chinese options etc., Always different types of potato and vegetables including normal broccoli, carrots and cauliflour. There were all types of sauces and gravies plus vaiour salads, soups and breads. The desserts were lovely - usually in small bite sized portions so you could choose a selection. Plenty of fruit always available., Not at any time did we experience having to wait for plates, cutlery etc., The downstairs bar snack are available if you don't make it for breakast. Uusally toast, cheese, ham and salad. Aso there was a choice of pizzas, hot dogs, chips etc., All in all I felt there was always a choice and variety of food. None of my family were affected by tummy bugs. As always when abroad, you have to be sensible with water and ice. There were several drinkable water machines or you could buy water from the shop. As for the hotel itself, I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Our room boy Aziz on the third floor, I found to be completely trustworthy. I felt happy to leave anything in my room. It was meticulously cleaned with fresh sheets every day. He did various towel art which was a really nice touch. At the bar I would especially like to thank Michael and Mohammed. They are both an asset to the hotel. They were always well presented, polite and also had a really good sense of humour. I just don't understand previous comments that have been made. I have never had pool service before in any 4 star hotel. Every time I attempted to go to the bar, they insisted on bringing our orders to us. They also brought around fruit kebabs and ice creams throughout the day. The entertainment programme was good and well run by Bobosh and Akhmed. There were some concerning issues with a girl named Leena. I understand that this is now being dealt with and that she will be leaving the hotel, though I do think the management should have dealt with this sooner. They have a new girl waiting to start who we met and I'm sure that things will soon be sorted. We visited the sister hotel which was lovely but nowhere near as friendly as the Sol-Y-Mar. I am so glad we chose this hotel. I believe that by being a bit smaller, they are able to give a more personal service. I would like to thank everyone at the Sol-y-mar for a lovely holiday. I would not hesitate to return. I would also like to say that I sometimes go on holiday on my own and I would feel completely safe at this hotel. Don't take any notice of the few negative remarks. Just enjoy!More

Just returned from this hotel with my partner and what can I say, it's the best holiday I've ever had. The hotel was clean, the food was good and the staff couldn't do enough for you. What more could you want. The staff were the best thing for me and my partner as they made everyone feel relaxed and were always up for a laugh, 99% of them were just genuine people. The bar staff were great expecially Micheal, he made our holiday, always having a laugh and making sure that everything is ok. Your drinks were always replaced when you were finished by all of the bar staff so really you didn't need to go to the bar. The restaurant staff were also incredible, just like the bar staff they couldn't do enough for you. You would walk into the restaurant, they would greet you, take you to a table that you wanted to sit at and take orders for your drinks. Not once did I get my own drink in the restaurant. Saied was absolutely great, he treated you more like a friend rather than a customer. The service we received all holiday was a personal one. Me and my partner are now looking to book again for next year, we can't wait to get back out there.More

Danielle C,

Cant wait to return!!

Just returned from 12 days at the sol y mar and had the most fantastic time. My wife and I travelled with our 3 children and we were all gutted when we had to leave. This is without doubt the friendliest hotel we have visited and the staff made you feel very welcome. Firstly I would like to say how clean and tidy the hotel was. The pool was regularly cleaned and the standard of cleaning in the rooms was exceptional (especially the towel sculptures made by our cleaner (Aziz), which the children loved). The restaurant staff couldn't do enough for you and made meal times a pleasure. Mohammed and Handi mainly looked after us and they were brilliant. We were regularly given extra treats for the children and they took special care to ensure that we always had something suitable to give our youngest to eat (6 months old). The pastry chef was fantastic and was constantly taking care of us. The bar staff were also excellent. Michael and Mohammed were fantastic and always made sure our glasses were topped up and took time to play with the children, making milkshakes and mock-tails for them. Their manners were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble for them. Michael in particular is an absolute credit to the hotel, very smart and professional at all times. The entertainment team were the best I have experienced. Bobosh and Akmed were brilliant and worked tirelessly to keep everyone entertained, from the young to the old. You couldn't fault them There was however a third person called Lena who had recently started and who we were most concerned about especially when she is looking after your children. They do have a new lady called Maria waiting to start who was lovely and think that she will be a great asset to the animation team. My mother and son were both poorly and had to see the doctor over there but once again the staff couldn't do enough for you. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and when you read the negative comments I wonder whether these people actually stayed at the same hotel as us. Will definitely be back. Tip - If you want snorkeling, get a taxi to Sharks Bay ( 8 pounds return). The coral is great and is easily accessible. The snorkeling at the sister hotel is very poor.More
