Cala D'or was disappointing.Too much typical Brit/German bars with football on TV....not how we would describe 'Up Market'

The Marina and restaurants were very good and this area lived up to 'Up Market'

The hotel was charming but the junior suite location above the kitchen was very noisy. We had to have staff locate an unacceptable level of external noise from air con unit over kitchen and turn off. At the price we paid we did not see this as value for money.

Piano Bar was attractive but disappointing as there was no manned bar and it was not a full bar. Piano was played once a week....

Good points - the hotel was very clean and the shower was good.

Bad points -

For a hotel with 49 rooms, there were only 42 loungers around the pool, 38 of these were in shade. There are other loungers around the "gardens" but the ones in the sun get taken very early. There simply isn't enough space for the majority of guests to sunbathe.

The hotel has an "immediate use" policy for sunbeds, but it is not enforced, meaning that sunbeds are being reserved from 6.30am in the morning through until 7pm at night.

The room decor is tired and dated and not up to 5T "luxury boutique" standard.

The standard rooms are quite small.

The bar in the hotel is actually a cabinet with spirits, it has no fridge or cold drinks.

The "bar" in the hotel is not attended at night and the pool bar is turned into a restaurant. Meaning there is no bar area at night.

There are only 2 restaurants, not 3.

The childrens pool is tiny, so they all use the adults pool.

There is no English TV channel and no DVD player as stated.

Our kettle was actually a coffee machine, but we weren't provided with any coffee to use with it - only instant.

Service is slow as there aren't enough staff in the restaurants. We waited 1/2 hour between finishing our starters to the plates getting cleared. Our friends waited 1 1/2 for their a la carte meal.

No poolside waiter service.

Toiletries aren't replaced.

The quality of the food is poor, we had pasta that was hot in the middle and cold at the edges and dry gnocchi with dried parsley sprinkled on.

The hotel experience was truly exceptional, the accomodation was excellent the staff were wonderful nothing was too much trouble. We were really pampered. The resort of Cala D'or was very very interesting from the beautiful Marina with a choice of fairly classy restaraunts to nearby what we referred to as the square mile where the main Cala D'or resaturants were packed together,we both agreed all the restaurants were extremely clean and tidy, the staff always willing and friendly. It was fairly quiet and we were concerned as to how some of them can sustain their business but it was early in season and I hope for their sakes that it picks up during June July and August. We chose the Ala Carte Thomson package and were extremely pleased. In fact we are of to Turkey in September again with the Thomson Ala Carte package, which we hope will be just as good as our Majorca experience.

The Melia is a wonderful place to have a relaxing holiday, rooms are spacious and clean, the facilities, 2 pools 2 restaurants, internet access(free) and gym, steam room etc are good for the size. Breakfast is varied and tasty. The Marina, some 10 mins walk away is vibrant with excellent restaurants and a thriving social centre at night. Cala D'or is a typical town but offers variety for all tastes, the beach is small and often crowded but nicer beaches are a few kilometres away.. Try the Trompe restaurant in town or Blanco y Negra at the Marina for authentic dishes. The Hotel is excellent for full walleters and familys with young children. The staff are so helpful and polite and have a quiet professionalism not found in some Spanish hotels. I would definitely recommend this hotel as worth a visit. There is no Rep from Thompsons, you dont really need one, but they are only a phone call away. Transfer from the airport takes about 45 mins and is by air conditioned taxi both ways. There are some good Golf courses close by that will give any standard of player a good test. My wife sets exacting standards for Hotels and she was extremely impressed with this one. We look forward to returning here and also trying other Melia hotels

We have been to this hotel,3 times, and just look forward to returning,we have stayed in many hotels all over the world, but can honestly say,it's by far,the best yet.Rooms have been very comfortable, and the junior suite, large and well furnished. We have found all staff, from cleaners to management, very helpful and polite.Breakfast has an excellent display of freshly cooked foods,to fresh fruit,meats,breads,cakes,etc.. Breakfast is best taken early,as it can sometimes get busy with noisy children, whose parents do nothing to keep them in check. Beautiful, well maintained gardens, with a lovely pool and small poolside bar. Located very conveniently for many restaurants and bars, yet far enough away if you want peace and quiet. Restaurants which are a must to visit are,vicentes,c/ariel,cala d'or, and barbacoa, which is towards cala serena,c/s.horta,excellent food, and both owners are characters. Cala d'or itself is a lovely resort, especially around the marina. All in all,if you want a good quality hotel ,in a good position, pleasant staff, within beautiful gardens, book a stay at the melia, you will find yourself looking forward to your next visit.
