Second visit to the same Hotel. The weather was perfect, 27ish degrees and sunny every day but not excessivly hot. 6 small cove beaches within 30 minutes walk, the nearest being just 5 minutes away. The town centre has a fair number of souvenier, clothes, shoe and accessory shops which all open late and is easily accessable on foot. Bars, Cafes and Restaurants abound with various themes and price ranges, and we did not find any which were less than excellent. The Hotel was every bit as good as the last visit, just brilliant. Room quality was excellent and the general atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. Food quality was excellent, although prices are not cheap. best of all was the service, which is the best we have ever enjoyed.

Hotel Melia Cala D'or absolutely faultless. Superb hotel, staff , food, service, etc etc. Resort of Cala D'or not exactly what we expected. Lots of british bars and restaraunts selling english breakfast and warm beer no doubt. Marina was a great place to go and eat out but after that Cala D'or didn't offer too much. Beach and bay where very good and a great place to go to have a picnic in early eveneing. Porto Fino restaraunt at the Marina was a great place to eat in the evneing. Food, staff and food were great from our experience. Porto Petro just around the corner from Cala D'or was a more original less commercialised area and would in future be a preffered destination. Hire a car and there are lots of places to visit on the Island, possibly better than Cala D'or. In a nutshell a little too british. If thats what you want then thats what you will get. If you want more of a Spanish experience then I feel you will struggle to find it at this resort.

The Hotel and resort were 1st class but we were surprised the Thomson Rep did not make any contact with us during our 10 day stay,we found a thomson book in the hotel telling us to contact the Rep in the Cala D,Or hotel but when we visited that Hotel they said thomsons did not have a Rep there. The hotel were very good sorting out our return pick up by taxi back to the airport, but we could not ask them for any Thmson excersion trips etc. Is this normal practice on A LA Carte Holidays Mr Jack Crabtree

Everything was good on arrival except reception was too busy to deal with us so we had to wait for an hour to sort out our room etc. Room was lovely, balcony large and comfortable. Meal in hotel restaurant good. Then, all went downhill from that evening. The jacuzzi bath in our room kept trying to come on all night and a boiler in the bathroom ceiling revved up and down all night too. Next day we were offered a dark, dank room at the rear of the hotel or nothing. In order to get some sleep we took the room as hotel staff would not open a better room as they were'closing down.' Closing down was the buzzword(or two) all week. Staff disappeared, cleaners were few; food in the restaurant was limited, in fact the only thing to eat by Thursday was veal which we do not eat. In the resort which is hugely overdeveloped since we were there about 15 yrs ago the same dismal atmosphere prevailed. Many shuttered properties and only three restaurants open at the Marina which is the nicest part of Cala D'Or. Fortunately, the weather was good and we enjoyed sitting outside but couldn't use the balcony as it got no sun at all. I was ill and had to get injections from the local doctor which didn't exactly enhance the situation. The main complaint though was that the only thought the hotel staff had was to continue the process of 'shutting down' regardless of the fact that the residents had paid their full wack and expected to be able to get a drink or a meal in a reasonable time. Often lone staff were running from breakfast room to pool bar trying to give service. As for the bar at night, you would be lucky to get a drink at all. Sorry to have to say all this but we were really looking forward to a good week before the winter but I was so glad to get home!
