I have just returned from Cuba with my daughter, we enjoyed a weeks all inclusive at Playa Pesquero. I am well travelled and rarely visit anywhere twice as I believe there are so many places to see in the world. I will make an exception for this resort though, I can't praise everything highly enough. My only bad word is that I wish I could have gone for 2 weeks and not 1 (half term dictated this) The Cubans are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The staff all over the resort made us feel like we were the most important guests there. The food choice was excellent, the resort beautiful, lovely weather and we really had the most brilliant on site rep, Omar. He was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and always contactable. The medical staff were efficient too. My daughter collapsed on our first day in the restaurant whilst we were having lunch, and the waiters, doctor and nurse all sprang into action to help us (nothing serious in the end, heat, jet lag and tiredness I think) We only did one trip, the half day swimming with dolphins, and what an experience that was, we loved it. In summary, I can't praise this holiday enough and will definitely be going back, 2 weeks next time!
The hotel public areas were reasonably good, but for a 4* hotel the rooms were poor and smelt of drains or damp, as did some of the restaurants. The toilets around the pool and beach areas were particularly unpleasant and very smelly. We were very disappointed with the food in all of the many restaurants, as it was very bland and usually overcooked, even though the menus looked very good on paper. The buffet restaurants were slightly better because you could see what you were getting, although we sometimes felt invisible to the waiting staff, when they walked past us with pots of coffee or bottles of wine, even though we were trying to signal to them. The beach was poor and had dangerously sharp coral, causing several people very nasty cuts to their feet. The sun loungers were very hard slatted wood with no cushion available. The bar staff however were excellent and so were the Thomson reps. It was also a shame that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, so there is nowhere to walk to. Whilst the Cuban people were very friendly, we will not be returning to this resort.
We stayed in Playa Pesquero for 2 weeks in Jan 2011, with my husband and 19 month old daughter. The outbound flight was long but we booked a private taxi transfer and were at the hotel way ahead of those on the coach so there was no queue to check into hotel(fantastic!). The pool is fantastic for little ones and is sooo safe with a start depth of 0.20 m and two shallow areas for them at either end of the huge pool. The food is fantastic in both the ala carte and the buffet restaurants and you are spoilt for choice. As well as all the pre maid food options you can have any type of meat of fish cooked for you including tuna steaks/ red snapper/ king prawns/ beef/ chicken kebabs and loads more, including freshly made pasta dishes. They also would cook whole roast pigs on the spit roasts around the hotel grounds - mouth wateringly good!! Because of the all the ala carte restaurants you never get a chance to get bored of the food unlike most all inclusive hotels we've stayed in. The beach is stunning and peaceful and there was never a problem getting sheltered sunbeds either here or at the pool. We went to guardalvaca and had to leave after 15 mins as it was dirty and noisy (with huge speakers blasting bad dance music across the beach) it reminded us of places like Magaluf, fine if you're 20 and just want to get wasted - Playa Pesquero was like paradise in comparison. We also did the Blue and Green jeep tour, which was great as you had a personal guide and could find out about the real cuba from them - this was an eye opener. The people are so kind and friendly and it is a safe place to go with your family. If you're travelling with babies don't rely on buying things for them out here, the hotel shop has normal nappies but no little swimmers which we ran out of (luckily loads of people helped us out). We really struggled to find any faults with the hotel/food/staff etc and I have to stay usually even if the hotel is nice you can find one or two faults but here there were none. Also if you do want to get out of the hotel crayons for the kids or medicines (tescos/asda brand paracetamol etc) is really appreciated by the locals as they have very very little. A fantastic holiday and we'll definetley be going back, which is the first time we've ever said that.
we flew out on 29th november for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it! only been back a month and were looking to book again we got married there on the beach, everything was perfect the food was sometimes not 100 but i think thats cuba in general, as was not just this hotel. sometimes cold and really greasy book ur restaurants early. the best with out a doubt was the romantica, for service and food quality we went there for our wedding meal, and 3 times after that as the waitress was lovely and friendly and invited us back without the need to make a reservation. always hot and tasty! after that the steak house was nice then the italian. Latinos - the buffet was nice too, made to order food. service bit slow sometimes tho u may not get what u expect tho. in the steak house...they serve tomato sauce, instead of chilli for example...and in the beer garden again served ketchup when on menu it says sweet and sour sauce we did the sun cruise which is a catamaran - with open bar snorkeling in the reef, and a dolphin swim, and lunch. was a perfect day. lunch was rubbish, but the whole day was incredible!! excellent value for money the entertainment staff and most of the bar staff made u feel welcome we didnt like the beer garden they only served u if u tipped them! food rubbish there 2! beach lovely pool amazing and overall really friendly staff - we have made good friends! we want to go back there - mainly to see them or wed go to another hotel!
Resort absolutely lovely always kept clean and tidy. Staff very friendly around the resort especially the service in the restaurant called Latinos where my family had breakfast and dinner in the evening. The shows every evening in the theatre were first class and service in the lobby bar was outstanding. The swimming pool is always nice and clean. Crabs come up into the resort even in the pool and theatre at night. Beer garden and the lobby bar is open 24 hours so if you like a beerage or two this is the place to go if you want to have a nice relaxing holiday. I personally cannot wait to book and go there again next year as the weather is very sunny except for the odd shower in the afternoon about for which does not last long, you just get off the sun lounger and jump in the pool while it is raining. Soon as it stops jump out and carry on tanning oneself. Cleaners who do the room are absolutely marvelous and do a spot on job, especially the way thay leave something on your bed created out of a towel or blanket everyday in which you get a different one. Food cooked at Latinos is cooked as you require it to be and they are really first class people.
