Great place to stay, food and staff really do make up for what does appear, at fist, to be a run down place. They do need to get the paint brush out and start refurbishing the whole place. Pools, decking patios, walkways and the back of the lake (jogging track) need tender loving care starting now. But, if you can put that aside you will have chosen a great place to holiday. The food is superb the staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. I would like to go back, as many couples do. I would definatly go back if they did it up. Our room was right next to the ocean in D block. It was big and very clean, the shower not so good but the views of the sea were panoramic, air conditioned and bright, bed massive, tv small but who cares! I scuba dive and the crew are great, you can sail, water ski, knee board or go snorkelling all included and the water sport team make it fun. The beach is beautiful but a little small which can be a little claustrophobic, if you like to go for a walk it will take 1 minute to walk it. You can go to Couples Tower Isle for day, if you are staying for a couple of weeks then the day out to CTI and the Dunns River Fall is a must and the falls are great fun. Overall an excellent place with great food and staff, just needs paint!

A group of 10 of us came to Jamaica for a friends 30th Birthday! We had an idea of what it would be like but our expectations were blown out of the water! I had an amazing time, we all did. The resort was fabulous. Almost everyone working there was extremely friendly, (except a few women here and there working at the resort). The food was devine - we loved getting our fix of "island food" - Dasheen (taro), green banana's, paw paw, sugar cane the list goes on. LOVED the patties, jerk chicken, jerk fish, jerk pork - everything JERK and plaintain with fish - oh yum! All the food was amazing. The jackfruit - I ate the whole thing until the waitress told me how to eat it properly (woops wondered why it was bitter!).. The excursions - 9 mile (Uncle Bob Marley's resting place) & Dunn Rivers (amazing waterfalls) stand out for me! Simply amazing and highly recommended. The beach - stunning. The entertainment crew are amazing - they always had something going on daily to keep the guests entertained and they did a great job! I will be back again and would come to the same resort. 1 week wasn't enough! Special thanks to: Brady (mister entertainment) thanks for the upgrade, Steve (always our waiter at breakfast), Trudor & Whitney (bar men at the pool). From one of the NZ crew! One Love

I'm a 28 year old man and I went on holiday with my mum and my son of 2 years. We stayed at the hotel Riu in Ocho Rios and my first impression was this hotel is massive and lilac the welcome party was very nice and on arrival we got completely rum cocktails. We stayed at the Riu for 2 weeks and the Thomson rep Pauline was very helpful and I booked 3 excursions with her, Cool Running which was awesome as it took us on a catamaran to Dunn's River and my son loved it. I also went on the Appleton/ YS Falls/ Black River tour and this was a long day but well worth the money and finally I took part in the Kingston Tour it was good if you like ice cream as you get to stop at Devon House and also visit Bob Marley's home for a tour ($20 USD) but I wouldn't recommend it as you don't really get to see the true Kingston. Most night's we ate at stAnn's restaurant with is a buffet of a wide selection of food and we also tried the Mammee Bay steak house but if you want to experience real carribean food you need to go out and buy the local food and that has so much flavor (we often went to the Jurk Centre or Juici Patties in Ocho). The beach is lovely and the staff friendly, tips are opperacted. I also visited Dolphin Cove which isn't far from the resort.

we stayed at the Riu Ocho Rios for 2 weeks. The hotel is in need of up dating as it looks tired in some areas. We were without water for 2 days which was not good and no one seemed to know why. The staff and entertainment teams were great i would say they are the best out of the 3 Riu hotels i have stayed in, nothing was ever too much for them, they do a really good job. The toilet areas were kept clean at all times which is a bonus. There are plenty of bars and places to go for a snack. The Jerk chicken is lovely i ate that most days. Most of the shows were very good and the beach party was great fun. The main buffet restaurant lets this hotel down. The queues were to long, you could wait up to 30 minutes for the meat to be carved. Most nights we just had salad as it was far to hot to wait in the queues. the restaurants you booked seperatley were all very nice so we went to them most nights. We done the Dunns river falls, they are not as easy as they look but a good trip. The mystic mountain on the bikes is a must and the bob sleighs were very good. we did not have any bother with the people selling drugs etc they only asked us once and that was at the river falls. We were glad we took American dollars as that is the main currency there. The beach is lovely you can just relax or join in the many activities the entertainment crew organise. Overall this was a excellent holiday and i would recommend it to others thinking about going to Jamaica.

The hotel - Couples San Souci was excellent from start to finish. We went straight into the Couples lounge at the airport and were offered drinks and cold towells whilst our luggage was dealt with. The private taxi trasfer was also excellent. We cannot find any fault with the hotel. The rooms were beautiful and clean and spacious (along with the views). The staff at the hotel could not do enough for us, and the food from breakfast the evening meal were fantastic with plenty of choice. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings and is spotlessly clean, the number of staff was equivalent to the number of guests. Dunns River is a must and river rafting excellent. The only thing that let the holiday down was unfortunately the Thomson rep (Godfrey). When we arrived at the hotel we asked when the welcome meeting was as we were not handed any information from Thomson. The hotel called Godfrey and he agreed to meet with is the following day. When he did arrive he asked us why we had agreed to meet with him!!! This is really poor service from Thomson and was not what we were used to. He reluctanly gave us an overview of Ocho Rios but was obviously more interested in trying to sell us the trips. When we said that we would need to go away and discuss which ones we wanted to go on he said that he would contact us the following day in our rooms (though this was a bit pushy considering that he had no intention of showing up to meet with us). He did call us the next day and we decided on what trip we wanted to go on, he then came to the hotel the following day for the payment. The details he priovided regarding the trip were incorrect stating that we would be back at the hotel at 16.30 when in fact it was 19.30. On our return back to the UK the hotel were informed that we would need to be in reception by 12.00 to our taxi back to the airport, after waiting for over 30 mins the hotel informed us that infact Godrey had got the time wrong and it should be 12.45. On arrival at the airport the Thomson rep at check in was nothing short of rude, she shouted at peope who were not moving as quickly as she would have liked and was very unhelpful, we had to ask one of the security staff the question which should would not answer for us. Apart from this we cannot dault the hotel but next time we go back I would seriously consider going with another travel company and I feel that your representative could have spoilt the holiday for us, as they were just so unhelpful.
