Good location in the outskirts of Funchal near the Lido. Good quality restaurants, particularly Il Basilico, Mama Mia and the Brasserie. Staff in hotel very attentive. Good walks, but is quite hilly. Forum shopping centre only 20 minute walk.

The hotel was very good. Our only complaint was the night we dined in the a la carte we felt that it was not value for money. We were the only diners and we felt that the service was poor and that we were being fitted in only when the diners at the buffet did not require attention. We adined two nights at the buffet and could not fault it nor could we fault the service and food at breakfast. It is a pity that when you arrive at the hotel you are not shown to your room and the workings of the air conditioning/heating are not explained nor were we offered any help with our luggage. This did not spoil our holiday but we feel this is the standard of service we would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Modern, stylish and clean, but by no means 5*. This hotel was not our first choice, Cliff Bay was full, but having stayed at the Melia/Sensatori hotel on Tenerife we had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately it's not in the same league. It was so quiet, there were very few guests and those that were there obviously preferred to eat/be entertained out. We tried the buffet dinner on two nights, but it was much the same fare on both, so we decided to eat out for the remainder of the week. Breakfast was good, but again, much the same every day. Entertainment limited, and timed to coincide with dinner out, so didn't see much of this, however on the two occasions we did witness it, the bar area (not very comfortable) was almost empty and we felt sorry for the keyboard player/singer who was trying his best to remain upbeat. The outside areas are deserted in the evening, which is a shame as they are OK and temps were a comfortable 20C. Rooms, staff facilities all good, but ambience lacking. Heard better reports of other hotels in the area and a visit to the Cliff Bay confirmed we'd really missed out. Notice that Thomson leave out various options, such atmosphere in the review for this hotel, preferring to give only the best features...naughty Thomson!
