Just returned from a week at the Cerro Mar. Arrived at the apartments at 10.30am and had to wait until 2pm for our room to be available. The staff said this was a usual thing with thomson customers, although the rep tells you that you will wait no more than 10 minutes. Not a good start. Our apartment however was lovely, it was large and had everything you could want apart from a hairdryer. It was cleaned daily and fresh towels daily. The only prolem with the apartment was that we only had one set of keys and you had to unlock a gate then a door and another door before you reached your apartment, it seemed a bit excessive but there is obviously a reason for this. We had to go everywhere together otherwise we could not get back in. The apartments are at the top of a steep hill reached by a set of steps (nicknamed the stairway to heaven), If you are not very fit or have walking difficulties you may struggle with these. You can get a cab back from town for 3 euros. Albufeira old town was ok there were plenty of restaurants and the usual tourist shops, you do get pestered constantly in the evening to go into the restaurants which got quite annoying. The beach was lovely with plenty of sunbeds. Although there is only a small supermarket at the apartments, there is a Lidl about 10 minute walk away which is great value and has everything you need. We loved the apartment but were disappointed with the location.

As soon as you arrive at the Cerra Mar Colina you are made so welcome with a personal touch. We were recognised straight away as we had stayed there last year and were given the apartment we requested which was a bonus. The beaches are so clean and plenty of bars and restaurants all so close so you don't have far to wwalk and even if you do want to venture further everywhere is so accessible.

These apartments are the best you could ever have for self catering, we ate out every night though cos the restaurants are so good. Unbelievable size and everything you could ever want. They were cleaned everyday and spotless. The staff were all fantastic and spoke great english. They have a Fully equipped kitchen, air condition and heating. located at the top of the hill which is a climb but after having such lovely meals its an excuse to work off those extra calories. The hotel also offers a free courtesy bus several times a day to and from the town centre. My family and I just got back stayed between October 25th and November 4th 2012. I would definitely go back and most certainly stay at these apartments but not the same time of year as we had rain everyday and a few hours here and there of sunshine. This is not a complaint because no one can change the weather. It's just to let people know the type of weather expected for this time of year. El Rancho on the beach front of the old town is an amazing restaurant. The owner and his staff are wonderful and the food is the best you could have. However I would stay away from the restaurant on the front called Cabana Fresca. Enough said about this place, just take my word for it.. Portuguese are lovely people. It was our first time and it won't be the last. A great place.......
