I stayed at the Tropicana hotel In June 2007 with my husband, 3 year old daughter and the in laws. We had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel itself was quite small but that made it even friendlier. There were mainly Welsh/English people staying there, the staff couldn't do enough for you, especially Miroslav (the young boy who served drinks by the pool). A pint of lager at the hotel cost 3 lev (#1). The rooms were nicely decorated and cleaned every day. Bed & Breakfast is the best option as it was so cheap to eat out. We ate at the hotel some evenings where the dearest meal on the menu was 14 levs (#5). We also ate at the Casablanca Hotel (behind the Tropicana) where the food was very nice with roughly the same prices but more choice. You could also use their pool if you wanted to for 5 levs per day (#1.75) as their pool was much bigger. However, the beach is practically on the doorstep for those beach lovers. There was not a lot to do in the evenings other than walk up to the square where there were a few small shops and a bedrock pub (my daughter enjoyed the dinosaurs). There was also a small fair on the front which she enjoyed. The small rides were only 1 lev. We spent most evenings at the Hotel Helios where you could pay 10 levs (#3.50) per adult or 5 levs (1.75) per child to have free all inclusive drinks and entertainment every evening. (You will need to take your passports with you to get in though). The resort itself is quite small as it is still developing, however it suited us for a quiet relaxing holiday. I would definitely return. I am sure it will be the place to be in a few years time.

Just spent a week at the Tropicana. The hotel is lovely, really nice. It's clean and comfortable and the food is very good. I would recommend B and B and order off the menu in the evening. Breakfast is buffet eat as much as you like style with hot food and cold meats and cereal. Only oddity was dry spaghetti instead of baked beans one morning! The evening meal for HB is also buffet style and I don't think can work out any cheaper than just ordering whatever you want from the menu, probably more. The menu is varied and as a vegetarian I wasn't short on options. The notice does say that the restaurant is open all day which it wasn't, and that you can pay 10 lev to eat from the HB dinner which someone tried and was told they could not. You do get a fridge in the room though which is a real good point, there is a Spa shop just round the corner and drinks from there to have on your balcony are much cheaper than in the hotel. The only thing the local supermarket is missing is ready made sandwiches, it was hard to find a light lunch in Obzor! The only down side to the hotel is that the patio area around the pool already needs some work, a lot of it has sunk and it needs levelling or could be dangerous. The pool is pretty tiny, and it doesn't have a pool bar as some would understand it, it has a pool side bar. I know there were people there when I was staying who were expecting to swim up to the bar. If you are in room 210 to shut the balcony door you have to sit on the floor and shove it hard at the bottom corner!! The sounding area is a mess. Scrub land and building sites. I am sure it will change a lot in the next few years. My recommendation for Nesebar is, go through the town past the fountain and up to the junction where you can get a bus, there was one at 10.30. They are quite easy to get back to Obzor, the times are listed where you get off. They were at 12.30, 3.30 and 6. FAR cheaper than paying for the guided tour. Don't try the same with Varna unless you can find out the return bus times beforehand. They aren't listed at the bus stop and to find them you have to trek over to the bus station where the chances are you'll ask at about 10 offices before you can find out that you have a long wait!

My husband and I went and stayed in Hotel Tropikana for our honeymoon. We had the best time ever. Hotel was fab and all staff were just great. Weather wasn't too brilliant however we still made the most of it. We had such a great time we have booked up for next year. I woud advise anyone to go to Bulgaria. Obzor Beach is quiet but has everything on your door step from shops, supermarkets and many places to eat. Also very very cheap!!!!!!

The hotel we stayed in was perfect. It was very clean and maid service everyday. It's a small hotel and very cosy. If you've not been, TRY IT!!!!!

Spent 2 weeks at Hotel Tropicana and had a fantatic (HOTEL) holiday. The hotel was small and friendly very clean and the food very good. Staff were execellent, helpful, friendly especially Mirow the poolisde barman. He was fantastic a real star made my sons holiday he didn't want to come home. Maid service was excellent. Hotel was a two minute walk from the beach. Can't say the same about Obzor resort - the majority of local people were unhelpful, unfriendly almost rude. It was as if they resented the tourist being there. The resort restaurants in Obzor were awful the food was horrible service was awful if you did manage to find somewhere nice you waited for ever to be served. If you want a holiday were you are happy to stay around the hotel and beach Tropicana is the place to stay. I would go back again. It's a pity they couldn't pick this hotel up and put it somewhere else outside of Obzor.
