JuSt returned from our family hoilday at Alykanas Beach Village, Zante. As a family of four two of which are 11 year old twin girls, we had not been on a package holiday abroad for 7 years. We could not hace picked a better resort. The studio appartment was compact but comfortable and cleaned daily by the maids.. nice break for mum! There was plenty for the girls to do with three pools and waterslides (Children only on these!) and the beach at the end of the quiet pool, they were never bored. There was poolside entertainment but it was never forced on you and you can get away from this by the quite pool whic also benefits from the sea breeze. The childrens club is optional and includes a chocolate night which was a favourite with our girls. We did 2 trips as we were only there for 7 days. Thomsons Simply Zante takes you to the blue caves and around the Island. Kay our guide gave us a lot of interesting and funny facts about the Island and it's people, the tasting sessions were very enjoyable, a monastry and a church wea a bit much for us but a good day was had by all of us. The shiwreck trip we arranged ourselves and was a half day out on the seas and an hour in the cove. Swimming in the beautiful blue sea was amazing. Caution... you do need to be a strong swimmer as the waves are increadible which makes getting back onto the beach tricky if not very amusing for my girls watching mum flailing about in the sea trying to get a foot hold on the tiny pebbles. Alykanas has a great choice of eating places some better than others but this is personal taste, the Greek food was delicious. A ten minute walk along the beach from Alykanas to Palm Tree beach bar Alykes is rewarded by the best milkshakes in the resort!!! According to the experts in this family. The only down side was the return trip. 8.30am in reception for pickup at 9am, at airport for 9.20am but our flight was not scheduled till 12.45. Check in took 10mins, quite why we had to be there so early is a mystery. Add to that the 2 hour delay culminated in 5 hours at Zakynthos aiport with no information being given to us by anyone unless we went and sought it. We didn't go through passport control so could at least go outside. Not the ideal ending to an otherwise a great family holiday. Would we return and recommend the resort and Island to others? Absolutely..
A fabulous 10 day stay with family including an almost 2 year old and 5 year old. Apartment perfectly comfortable , we opted for the 2 bedroom option and were on ground floor. Nicely decorated and clean. Slight downside was the lack of 'living area', we were a little surprised by this but it wasn't an issue really. Did here a few people complaining about space in the one bedroom apartments as these were studio like and limited for space. The complex itself is ideal, great pools, a splash pool with much loved slides, play area, soft play bit and right near a lovely little beach. Snack bar ok for basics, however nearby restaurants are great, lots of choice. Our eldest enjoyed the morning kids club and loved the evening chocolate party. We didn't do the evening entertainment so can't comment. The day time/pool side was ok though. Location perfect for amazing restaurants....never had a bad meal. Warning about Alia/Enias lobster dish...40 euro a complete con but they seemed ok with the complaint and adjusted bill. Otherwise The Lemon Tree (via horse and cart) and Greek night at The Old Mill (Friday) are worth a particular mention. Most have play areas for little ones and offer free ice cream etc. Overall a really lovely family holiday with value for money! Final mention of the fact we only saw one stray dog!
