As first time visitors to Egypt we had no pre-conceived ideas of what to expect and this accommodation met our expectations, and in some cases exceeded them, but it would not take much to make this a much better hotel.
The low profile layout, the pool areas, the gardens and the staff (in particular the staff) are batting well above the 4* rating and I cannot think that anyone would be disappointed with these elements. What are 4* are the rooms, which are very spacious with large dressing areas and very large bathrooms, but everything in them is tired (although of good quality originally) and really needs a refurb to meet modern standards. The room servicing too is a little slack. The crew are very good at making the room tidy and the linen is always immaculate, but floor mopping, dusting, getting in behind the doors and into the nooks and crannies just does not happen and this is noticable. The all inclusive drinks offering is adequate, but not exciting, with just beer, basic spirits (local gin, vodka, whisky, brandy, white & dark rum), a limited cocktail range and local wine (until 10pm only) available without charge. Anything else incurs an additional charge, even freshly made coffee; the standard coffee is instant, but made in coffee pots on heated stands. It probably sounds worse that it is; we wanted for nothing in our week away but in a 2 week stay I suspect it would be easy to tire of the free drinks.
The food offering (and there is plenty of it!) was OK too, but not 5*. Breakfast offered plenty of selection (same each day) with the main area being the egg station offering eggs any way you want them. Beef & chicken suasages (no pork of course) and a full range of cold stuff to choose from. Cooking stations at lunch & dinner offered fresh fish, chicken, liver (very popular) and even kebab. There is also a fresh pasta station, fresh pizza bar, fresh salads and a central heated servery with at least 10 choices of vegetables, pastas, fish, tagines and beef dishes. All in all it met our expectation; it was always hot and freshly cooked and again the staff (including senior managers) were only to eager to help in any way.
Finally, before we came we were warned by friends that the hotel is full of Russians and that everyone who goes to Egypt has a poorly tummy. Well, the hotel was predominantly occupied by Russians who were great fun, even if one or two could be a bit loud on their way home at night; and tummy wise ... never a problem. Enjoyed the break.
Dreams Vacation was ok but no better than that. We have stayed in Egypt 8 times during winter months and this was the first time my swimming costume did not get wet. None of the pools were heated so were too cold to get into. Access into the sea was very difficult and only possible via a jetty, the red flag was flying the whole week so no sea swimming. The closest heated pool was in the neighbouring Dreams Beach Hotel which was far too small to cater for the numbers trying to use it
We had a well positioned room near the restaurant but it was tired and in need of a deep clean. The staff were very helpful and the service was pretty good. The restaurant felt much more like a cafe compared to other resorts we have stayed at and was far too crowded, so we always felt more comfortable eating late. The food was adequate but not very well presented, very little fish and the salads were boring. Overall, this hotel felt more like a 3 star than its labelled 4 star rating. We were also disappointed on the Thomsons flight home that most of the hot food on the menu was sold out but there was plenty of duty free still available to purchase so perhaps Thomsons should stock more hot food and less duty free goods.
I took my daughter, mum and friend to dreams vacation in June this year, i was apprehensive as we were all female, but all for nothing as we all felt very safe, well looked after and we loved Egypt. The Hotel was clean and tidy, the food was very good as plenty of choice and each day they did a different theme from a country, so we were able to try different types of food if u wished, as to my daughter delight she could have pancakes in the morning and chips for supper if needed. i have to say a big thank you to the staff as they went out of their way to make us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The trip adviser helped us to choose some amazing trips that we all enjoyed. Overall a fantastic holiday and we will be going back in 2013.
