did not want to come home, had the most relaxing holiday, the food was excellent with plenty to choose from, I am very fussy but never missed a meal, pool bars are the place to be during the day, lots of music and socialising, on the beach for the jerk chicken wow when did chicken get this tasty, didnt do to much of the entertainment but there is something for everyone, met a group from Stevenage had a great laugh, the staff are fantastic and really helpful especially chilton and conrad, and we requested a room overlooking the large pool we got room 2218 and sat on the balcony overlooking the pool and beach, beach was out of this world, and the sea was so warm, reccomend this place to anybody, we went in september and the hotel was half full, but there was no waiting for food or drink and the atmosphere was magic, dunns river falls were spectacular, we intend to go back in September 2010 cannot wait

This was our 2nd riu hotel holiday, we wouldnt stay with anyone else, the staff are superb right thru the hotel, but at the swim up bars an the bars in the evening thats when you will find out that they love to have fun with you, you got a drink there before you finished the one you got, rooms are big enough, mini bar ok to be honest, food can be a little repeatitive at day time, but you will never go hungry, 24hr sports bar is ok for a change also, nice beach not over big, bit stony but very clear, entertainment staff are ok but not as active as the riu merengue in the dom rep, lots of americans/canadians use this hotel, they are loud but they can make friends with you like anyone else, but please go if you want good weather an lots of laughs, you will get it here..

Went when it was meant to be main hurricane season, end of sept, beginning of oct, but weather was amazing! Hotel was great, staff even better, one of the bar staff even took us off sight one of the nights to show us round, which was lovely! Went to dolphin cove, recommended to go early in the morning 9am, and clear it with your rep to make sure no cruise ships are in. Was a little expensive to swim with dolphins, but well worth the experience, as other stuff is included free. We arranged all our trips with the rep, as it was much easier, and she arranges it all for you, when you want. Went for my nan and granddads renewal of vows, thomson had made a few errors with that, and my nan wasnt very happy with how little they got in the wedding package, after spending #17,000 on the hol for us all to be there, but hopefully be resolved between them. Beautiful hotel, and great where it is located, not too far from everything! Only 5 mins to Dunns river, which if you get chance, def do! the little party on the katamaran on the way back was brill. Entertainment and the beach partys were really good, and the best staff at the hotel you can imagine. Recommend anyone to go, caters for all ages.

My wife and I stayed here for a week at the beginning of october. The hotel is really clean and we found staff extremly helpful. The pool was nice and large, only thing was that the small coved sitting areas did end up quite dirty as the day went on. My biggest problem with this hotel was the food. Starting with the breakfast, this was actually the best meal of the day. Opens at 7am, closes at 11am. All your usual hot buffet of eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns etc. Also cereals and fruit. It was usually always hot as there was a quick turnover due to it always being busy. The lunch (12pm-4pm) was either in the main buffet area next to the pool or in the Italian restaurant. Usual burgers, chips, pizzas, chicken etc. It was ok but after 3 days of eating this kind of thing we could have killed for a nice baguette or cheese and ham toastie, something simple and light. There are rolls which you could make up using the salad bar but I always found the meats and cheese to be slightly warm unless you were there at 12, it just wasn't properly chilled. The dinners were our biggest letdown. One main buffet hall (same as breakfast), had so much selection but not once did i manage to get a fully hot dinner! My fresh fish might be hot as its just been put out, but the potatoes and veg would be just warm and no more. You could never time it with fresh plates being put out on each thing you wanted so had to put up with somethings being warm and some not. There were 3 restaurants we could use, the problem was you had to be down at reception area every morning to stand in a queue for about 15/20 mins to book for that night. The lady would start taking orders at 8am, but if you were not there before 7:45, the queue was so long, time you got to the front, all restaurants would be fully booked. I moaned that this had happened 2 days in a row now and she finally let me book a day early for the following evening. No menu at Steak House. only onion soup for starter. Dinner bake potato and veg as standard and choose either chicken, steak or mixed grill which included prawns. Again, the baked potato and veg were just warm, the steak was the only thing hot on my plate as its cooked to order. As the sir Johns restaurant was shut down during our stay due to a make over, we were allowed to use the sir Richard restaurant, this is usually only for superior room customers. This was our one and only decent meal our whole stay. Please avoid this hotel if you like nice hot food on holiday

We have just returned from two weeks staying in the Clubhotel Riu Ocho Rios and we have had one of the best holidays ever. We travelled as a party of four and we loved every minute of it. The hotel was spotlessly clean, (the cleaning staff were always evident), the bar staff were amazing and the food was excellent. I found it quite sad when I saw people in the dining room eating a plate of chips and tomato sauce as there was such a wide variety of very well prepared hot and cold foods on offer at each meal. We did not try any of the speciality restaurants as the food in the St. Ann buffet was so good. The entertainment team were very good and worked tremendously hard all the time. As for the Thomson rep Pauline we cannot rate her too highly. We have never been to a better welcome meeting and she was always on hand if she was needed. Jamaica to us is the ultimate holiday destination.
