Just returned from Lamaya in Marsa Alam March 12th 2008, we could not fault anything, the food was perfect, staff, and animation team very friendly, all inclusive only served the usual shorts and beer, but no shortage or queues. Pools very clean and 2 very warm, beach and swimming superb, just a few jelly fish one day. Beach bar lunches very good choice and they serve you! Animation shows at night improving as the holiday went on. Music 6 nights a week in the bar lounge and dancing. Would recommend the Hotel and you can also visit the other hotels in the bay (4 in total) The only part of the holiday we would not recommend is the flight home, DIABOLICAL, it was a Thomas Cook flight, the cabin crew had had a long day and it showed!! 22 people not served Hot meals, they'd given them to the non paying meal passengers, my wife was given a pack of Maltesers instead. Then to crown it all they put the film on twice, after they realised 20 minutes later, they stopped the lot , it was NOT a Thomsons flight. It spoilt a perfect holiday
This was the seventh time we have been to Egypt and the Lamaya was, by far, the best hotel we have stayed in.. The staff are excellent the cleanliness of the rooms, the food etc superb.. We went on an overnight excursion to Aswan, Abu Simbel, Philae and Edfu, the trip was well worth it, however, for such a long road journey, the mini bus we travelled in was a bit cramped.. On a different tack, I have one critiscism, the Thomson rep Kay, the most friendly, knowledgeable nothing was too much trouble person you could find, was, for some unknown reason (even to herself) sent home.. We as guests, where not told offically of any replacement, leaving us in limbo, ie in a Thomson Platingum Hotel and we did not even know who the Thompson rep was.. All I can say to Thomson is, if it aint broke dont fix it, re-instate Kay..
We have just returned from the Lamaya Hotel on the 20th February 2008 after a weeks holiday in Marsa Alam. If you are looking for a relaxing break in a great hotel with excellent service then book now !! The hotel is only 10 minutes from the airport but there is no aircraft noise as very few flights, the hotel check in was very efficient with a guide to your room followed very swiftly by your cases. The hotel is now 3 years old and sits on a very quiet cove of 4 hotels, access to the sea is limited due to protecting the coral, however there is a jetty to walk out and watch the amazing fish. The hotel has 3 main pools, 2 heated in the winter and loads of sunbeds, no need to be up at 6.00am to beat the Germans !! The hotel has a main buffet Restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a self service drinks bar, the food was good and varied, in addition the Beach Restaurant was open all day offering a snack menu and the Pool Bar offered hot and cold beverages until 6.00pm. We used the Health Club on a few occasions as it cooled off at 5.00pm so we enjoyed a small gym, jaccuzzi, sauna and steam room. The bedrooms where tastefully decorated with plenty of space, most being family rooms with a seperate area with twin beds doubled as sofa's, only compaint only one English TV channel, missed my Sky Sports !! The main thing you will remember is the excellent customer service, the numerous staff can't do enough for you, they love the English and always say hello when passing. I understand average catering staff, waiters, porters, housekeeping only earn about #60 per month, thats right !! so when you give them a #2 tip they are so humble and appreciative, I understand tips are shared out amongst all the team. In summary if you want a very quiet relaxing break in lovely surrounds, excellent accommodation and good food then book. In a dream world if I could make a couple of changes to the hotel maybe I would add a couple more a la carte eating options, add Sky TV and have direct access to the sea but this hotel and its staff are 99% there !!
The Hotel, amazing, clean, top class, outstanding. The Room amazing, clean, outstanding. The Food, very good we ate for 7 days and found something different every day, The Staff, the friendliest, nicest people you will ever meet, these people go out of there way to help you, say hello and will do anything to make your stay a good one, The Snorkeling, out of this world, but as a fisherman and lover of all things in the sea this was outstanding, I was swimming with a school of blue fish 100 strong at least, add in a mixture of yellow, black and red fish and you will see what I mean. We have been every where from New Zealand, Greece, Canaries, Cyprus not to mention loads of other places and can honestly say this was the best in terms of winter sun (even got Burnt) food, service and the overall enjoyment, also Kim (sorry I think this was her name) the Thomson Rep was very helpful and you could see loved the place, she also gave us good info and was a help to anyone that needed it. Hope she has good 6 week break at home in a few weeks Mr & Mrs Edwards will hopefully be back very soon.
I decided to take my boyfriend on holiday for his 25th birthday, he had never been abroad before so i wanted to make sure it was really special for him, i chose Egypt as i knew it would be warm in feb and im so glad i did!!! The Lamaya Resort is so beautiful and the staff could not have been more friendly from the wonderfully scultped towels left in our rooms everyday to the unbelievable service we received from the waiting staff in the restaurant. All inclusive always makes me think that there would not be enough choice of food and drinks but i was wrong!!! there were numerous cocktails and the amount of food served up for every sitting meant that there was always a good selection, and if we didnt fancy the restaurant there was always the beach bar to eat and drink at. If there was any fault it was mine in the fact that i wish we could have gone for 2 weeks instead of one, we wanted to experience other things and booked 3 trips, one to Luxor, one to the Hamata islands and one for the Valley of the Camels unfortunately by the Valley of the Camels we were so tired that we didnt make it, which is where the second week would have benefited us! I think next year we might try a little later into February as it is still their winter and the weather was little chilly at times although i still braved the sunbeds in my bikini! Out of all the trips is would definately recommend the Hamamta Islands which was a day of laying on completely undisturbed beaches, snorkelling and generally relaxing on the boat. I would just like to thank Thomson, the Lamaya Resort and all of the wonderful staff that made our holiday perfect i'd give it 10 stars!!!!! See you next year!!!!
