The Riu Palace lives up to its name. The best part for me was the excellent dinning. As the coach pulled up at the front of the hotel, you knew that you had made the right choice. Greeted at the door and given champagne, in fact you get free champagne for breakfast every morning. This is set in a quite location and would not be the best place if you have mobility issues as you seem to be either walking up a hill or down. This is great for a week to live the high life and unwind at a good price. The staff were everywhere making sure you wanted for nothing. In the dining room, it often seemed as if we had 3 or 4 people waiting on us. The room was a good size and very comfortable. A well appointed bathroom, again in a huge room. The balcony was as you would expect, also large and with good furniture. There were too single beds, 2 arm chairs and a table. A dressing table, housing a small fridge. 2 floor to ceiling wardrobes, an electronic safe (so no key to lose) and a TV with a few English channels including BBC1. The room had it's own airconditioning and a large ceiling fan. Like most overseas hotels NO tea/coffee making equipment, but otherwise everything you will need. It was one of those hotels that each day you found something new tucked away. I would happily recommend.

Having read mixed reviews re the Palace, we were somewhat prepared for difficulties. I am sure the other reviewers must have got there hotels mixed up for the Riu Palace was exceptional in nearly every way, accommodation, food , staff were all excellent. Plenty of sun loungers and shades and the weather in October was very good.If you don't like walking up and down hills then the local area will nor suit. The Thomson rep(Garry) was a very good advertisment for the company. Riu Palace was possibly the best hotel we have stayed in Europe. The downside, those beds were hard.

Enjoyed a really good break here. The hotel is reasonably quiet with a clientele that is predominantly 55+. Only downsides were expensive drinks and below average entertainment - the rest could not be faulted. If you are tempted by the all inclusive Riu over the road beware that the atmosphere is totally different!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Riu Palace Algarve. If you want a relaxing holiday in a lovely location with excellent food, the Riu Palace is the place for you. The only negative thing we have to say is that there are not enough sunbeds and umberellas. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and staying again in the future.
