1st break with the wife without the kids and have to say that it was a great holiday, area was excellent and the Hotel Bonamar was a joy to stay in with food, pool and entertainment to a very high standard.
If the price is right we will defo be back along with a few other couples who we have recommended to place to.
Hotel Resort very clean. Food plenty of choice.if you can't find something you like, sorry you have a problem. Rooms balcony small, not a problem, sleep only. The hotel made the wife and myself feel young, the age group must be 70+ we were 60 65 old spring chickens. Most of the entertainment OK. Elvis Abba Tributes, not to good, but, tried hard.
Only groan, the bar says, 1:00am close, they are pushing you out at midnight by making you feel very uncomfortable.
To sum it up, Good value for the money paid.
One more moan, Thomson's no rep on coaches, on the way home coach over loaded, struggled to make airport, 45mins late. Only 4 gates open at Palma airport, boarded plane on take off time.Thomson sort it out, chaos, could have ruined the holiday.
The Bonamar is a nice 3-star hotel in what should be an excellent location, but was completely ruined by the smell of sewage emanating from just outside the hotel. It was particularly bad on the promenade just in front of the hotel, 100 yards either way along the promenade was ok. Some days the pool area was uncomfortable as was our balcony. I complained to reception but they said it came from the sea and there was nothing they could do. The Thomsons' rep said that a number of people were complaining about it. We filled in a formal complaints form with her, but I see from my copy that I can't even expect a reply from Thomsons! Surely a written complaint warrants a written reply?
Unfortunately the Thomsons' rep seemed to have little knowledge of the area. We noticed on our way into the resort that there was a cycle track heading to Son Servera, I asked if it went all the way to Son Servera and she insisted that the only cycle track was along the promenade! How could she not have noticed it all the times she must have done airport duty? The Authorities have spent millions on these cycleways! We asked about visiting the caves at Arta; she replied "you mean Drach". I said no, we've been there we want to go to the caves at Arta. "I've never heard of those" she said! (They are only about four miles from the resort!) I asked the best way to get to the market at Sineu. "I've never heard of that place" was the reply! After that it seemed pointless asking any more questions. The Thomson handout states that at the Welcome meeting the "team will share all their local expertise with you... You'll get the lowdown on everything from....the best beaches and restaurants only the locals know.....give you a hand with planning something special....". A joke surely, given our experience of the rep's knowledge. While of course we wouldn't expect a rep to know everything, surely it's reasonable for Thomsons to expect their reps to have researched the area where they're working? It is some time since we took a package holiday with Thomsons and it is sad to see how standards have slipped in this respect. However the lady at the Tourist Information office was very helpful and we were able to get the information we wanted to enjoy our holiday.
I hope (though I am not confident) that these comments will be addressed, but I don't suppose I will ever know!
