This is a lovely hotel whose staff are welcoming and very helpful despite us staying at the very end of the season when most other hotels are closed. The hotel has a picturesque location on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea with a lovely large pool area (very cold water though). Food was very nice if a little repetative, beds hard but comfortable and rooms of an adequate size for a couple. They were clean and had a great shower. The hotel is out of town but the staff will take you were you want to go at no charge, they even take you to your room in a golf cart. You get to understand why when you have a walk round the estate as it is on the side of a hill so has lots of steps up and down (so would not be suitable for anyone with a disability). Thomson staff are helful but trips and car hire are expensive and can be had cheaper if you go into Skala. My tip would be go into town early doors, hire a car and explore Kefalonia on your own. You can drive around it easily in a day so simply plan your routes taking in a few places each day. The island and people are especially welcoming to the Brits given our history with them after the earthquake in 1953 and it is one of the most picturesque of Greek islands, as there are gardens of flowers everywhere and the scenery (especially in the north) is stunning. I think the best recommendation you can make is simply would you go back again. My answer to this would be definitely.

My husband and I had two weeks at the Apostolata Hotel and everything about it was very, very good. The rooms were very clean and the chambermaids changed beds and towels and cleaned the floors on a regular basis. The food was of a high standard, lots of variety and only a fussy eater would complain! If i had to make one criticism it would be the entertainment as over a two week stay we saw the same entertainment ie a singing duo three times and although they were good it did get a bit monotonous! It would really have been great to see some more local entertainment like greek dancing. The Greek band were really good.

In general the week was restful and relaxing although the steps to get from reception to the "beach" (that's another story) was certainly a lung buster for anyone slightly unfit, old or over overweight. The pool area was excellent, plenty of room and luckily for us not that many kids but that said the practice of "booking" your lounger with you towel, by ALL nationalities, before breakfast was endemic and could have caused a lot of animosity. Personally the few weakenesses were the hotel location, as regards how far out it was from Skala centre, the food, edible but monotinous and the comfort of the beds, which were flimsy to say the least. Certainly the hotel has potential but no way is it a 4* + hotel, they were painting the metal staircase during our stay and the hotel had already been opened 2 weeks and the nearby left was out of action there were no signs directing you to the alternative lift 60metres+ away!!! The staff were all fantastic and couldn't help you enough and the all made you feel at home and they ALL worked their socks off as it seemed the hotel was short on certain staff. As alluded to earlier the "beach" was a bit of a joke, a 5 foot concrete slab!!!, maybe there was some "poetic licence" used in the translation :). I would recommend the hotel to my family and friends, with the caveats mentioned earlier, but to upgrade to a superior room as the standard rooms were definitely "standard" and also to ensure they're all fit for the steps!!

We feel that this hotel is too far from the resort unless you have the use of a car. It is also not a good area if you struggle in any with mobility. Whilst all communal areas of the hotel look impressive, the cleanliness of the rooms leaves an awful lot to be desired! Now we come to the food. Brochure rating was given as 87 percent....Oh my God how did you come to this conclusion? The food was awful!! We thanked heavens every day that we were only half board and our holiday was only for 1 week.
