Yet another wonderfull holiday in Madeira. The Porto Sant Maria is the ideal location for the more senior traveller. You are very central to all Funchal's ameneties. With easy access to the city centre, old town, promenade, bus station and taxis.Staying in the hotel you want for nothing and the staff go out of their way to make your stay the holiday you would wish for.We previously stayed at the Santa Maria and had the same experience so this is why we returned this time. On our first visit we booked privately over the internet. This time we were doing the same went I noticed Thomsons were doing the same holiday. We couldn't match their price and there were extra bonusses like better flight timing and free airport shuttle transferes.First class .Very relaxing.
The hotel is great, the standard rooms have a small kitchenette with kettle, fridge etc. The location is marvelous right in the old part of Funchal with lots of lovely restaurants around and only a short walk into the area with the market then on to the shopping area. The pool areas are extensive and no problem getting the sunbed you want as very few people around the pools. Possibly because most of them were out and about on the levadas.
The only downside was the evening buffet which is a very expensive 27 Euros for a very limited and not very good buffet. We only used it twice to use up our 140 Euros given because of the noise from the building of the sea defences. Actually this noise fades into the background and we hardly noticed it. The breakfast buffet on the other hand is very good. So suggest B&B option as there are so many restaurants around at reasonable prices and good food.
We would definitely go back to the hotel.
Read reviews on TA before booking and was not disappointed ,my wife and i stayed 1 week from 1st April to 8th April 13. The location was perfect right beside the many restaurants and bars some good some not so good.Hotel was great with so many staff willing to go that extra mile to help hence the return of many guests time and time again.
Hotel seems to be adult only due to the number of elderly guests although the hotel does not advertise it as such,i think because of the location in the old part of Funchal it makes it easy to get about.
Rooms are a good size with kitchen facilities which is a plus in any hotel, allows for options should you choose.
Because of the ongoing works outside the hotel it can get a bit noisy at times but unless you remain in the hotel for your stay it will not bother you.
The works start each morning at 8:00 am and stop around 7:00 pm Mon to Sat no works on Sunday, for the inconvenience the management gives each guest 10 euros per day to spend in the hotel.
We ate in the hotel 2 nights trying the themed buffet and found the food to be fantastic, you can of course have the option the eat A la Carte.
Morning breakfast also has a great selection of hot or cold buffet.
A great stay in a hotel with staff that do actually care about there guests.
