Had a wonderful week in Sorrento in October. The flights were very good and up to time, but we did feel that we lost two whole days of our holiday. We arrived at 8.30pm and left the resort at 7.15am. However, the courtesy car from the hotel was great and did give us a relaxing, enjoyable trip to and from the airport. The weather and hotel were both beautiful. The two Thomson Reps were excellent and very helpful. We went on three organised trips, booked through Thomsons, all left on time and had excellent guides. Had a wonderful day on Capri with and exceptonally helpful Guide, very good lunch and a lovely boat trip. Well worth the money. Took the Open Topped bus tour and it was also excellent, seeing a wide area in a short time. Also did the Amalfie Coast trip. Found this very expensive for what was basically a run in a mini bus. The stops and scenery were good, but the lunch which was included, was dreadful. It was very poor quality and no arrangements were made for any dietary requirements. Sorrento itself is beautiful, with very friendly people. We went to various shops, restaurants and cafes recommended by the Thomson Reps and they were all excellent. There is plenty to do and see and we found a week was not nearly long enough. We made a very good choice with the Grand Hotel Royal. It was very central, had beautiful grounds and terraces and we had a lovely room on the sixth floor. Unfortunately, the balcony did not have a sea view, but overlooked the park and we were pleasantly surprised by how little the noise from the street disturbed us. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and went out of their way to help when requests were made. The food was excellent, in particular the Gala Buffet mid week, when the selection of different dishes for each course was amazing. The breakfasts were much better than we have experienced in many hotels abroad, with a lovely lady cooking all kinds of eggs to order. The only negative comment we can make about the hotel, is about the bar prices. They were extortionate! Perhaps this is why the bar was usually almost empty!! In their favour, however, there were a couple of Happy Hours, although we did not make use of them. Altogether, we had a wonderful time in Sorrento and can't wait to go back. Already making plans for next year to the same hotel

Lovely hotel, location near Tasso Square and very good staff, let down by unimaginative/ bad choice of vegetarian food. Lack of English TV, only news channels, compared to other languages which are well-catered for. Nice rooms, pool, courteous taxi service to and from hotel. Make sure you check local facilities independently, as the Thomson helpline is very bad they gave us the wrong closing day for the Archaeological Museum, causing us to waste £100 on transport to Naples. We have been home several weeks and they and have still not taken responsibility for it. This marred the tail end of our holiday and meant we wasted time and money trying to sort it out while still there, not to mention the day we lost on a wasted trip to find the museum closed.

Great food, great service at the hotel. Great food, friendly people and places around Sorrento. A busy but relaxed atmosphere around the town, never intimidating. Almost everyone speaks serviceable English and wanted to help, although a scattering of Italian pleasantries helps even more. The excursion to Vesuvias was great but when you book through Thomson they don't make it especially clear that you have to pay for entry as well - bring lots of cash. Overall very romantic, so glad we had a fantastic hotel to unwind in and get looked after once we'd done some exploring.

THE GRAND ROYAL IS FABULOUS.. IT HAS A GREAT LOCATION OVER LOOKING MARINA PICCOLO, FANTISTIC VIEWS OVER THE BAY OF NAPLES, WITH ITS OWN BATHING PLATFORM. THE GRAND ROYAL IS LOCATED MINUTES FROM THE CENTRE OF SORRENTO SO A WALK INTO TOWN, OR TO THE MARINA TO CATCH A FERRY TO CAPRI OR AMALFI IS NO MORE THAN 10/15 MINUTES AWAY. WE ENJOYED OUR STAY, THE HOTEL HAS AN OLD WORLD CHARM, LOTS OF MARBLE, DARK WOOD AND CHANDELIERS ALONG WITH FABULOUS FOOD, GREAT FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF MAKE THIS HOTEL AN IDEAL HOLIDAY DESTINATION. WE WOULD STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN AND RECOMMEND IT TO OUR FRIENDS WHO ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO SORRENTO.
