Pythagorian is a small Greek town with a quiet and picturesque harbour just right for 'strolling'. It has the feel of 'old style' Greece. There is a further more commercial harbour a short walk away. The food all over the island is really good with lots of unusual and local foods to try. The island is very relaxing and laid back. We stayed in the Mariona studios which were just of the main street and a 3 minute walk from the harbour. The accomodation was what you would expect for a 2 star. The sheets and towels were changed regularly but the room was a little tired. The cleaner had a sense of humour often making shapes on the beds with towels and sheets. You definately need to rent the air conditioning as some of the rooms do not get a through draught and are very small. The roof terrace is nice to use if your room does not have its own balcony. Probably request not to have rooms 4 and 10 as these have a chair and 2 table on the hallway to 2 other rooms. One of the tavernas we enjoyed to relax in after a meal was Thanises Sister, this is in the harbour and the owner plays greek music all evening every evening on his Bazouki. This is a family taverna and is very friendly. The food is homemade with our favourite being the meze. We went on Kaptain Andreas 2 stop boat trip on our last day. The crew have a great sense of humour and you are very well looked after. Book it with the picnic as the food is amazing. If you can hire a car and have a good look around the island. There are some amazing walks which make a nice change from laying on the beach. Another favourite trip of ours was to the waterfalls at Potami, take your swim stuff, shoes for in the water and little else as you will have to wade through water to see the falls. Climb the rickety stairs for a relaxing lunch in stunning surroundings. We also visited Pythagoras's cave on the north side of the island this involves a little climb so wear good shoes. We thought this was one of the better Islands we have been to and will definately be returning which is unlike us as we usually do a new island each year. We will stay in Pythagorian as after looking around the island have decided it is the best one for us. I would say it was overall a chill out destination for couples rather than a family island.

We stayed at the Mariona over the August bank holiday as we have done for the previous 2 summers. It is basic but comfortable and clean. The cleaners come 7 days a week and are very friendly. It is very close to the main road of Pythagorian less than 30 seconds away. Aircon costs 35 euros and is a must in August. It has been through a referb in the last 12 months and is much nicer. People were in the basement rooms and said they had no complaints and didnt need the aircon so saved 35 euros. Hopefully we will go again next year.

Downstairs rooms are dark and filthy. All the furniture is broken and tatty, Bathroom is disgusting. Patio is unusable because of filth, cats and cockroaches. The best rooms are given to foreign customers as the property is used by a scandanavian company so it is not EXCLUSIVE TO THOMSON GROUP CUSTOMERS IN THE UK. Its an absolute disgrace for Thomsons to use such substandard accommodation and it really has lowered our opinion of the company.
