We stayed here 12th sept for 10 night and had a fab time hotel very clean staff and entertainment team excellent. Rooms are bright and large with hairdryer and tv and optics (if you dont like drinks ask they will change them) fridge stocked daily and beds and towels changed daily could not fault. Hotel on a beauiful beach with warm waters, use of other riu hotel, but this one is the best (in our opinon)Weather well as i was told it was hurricane season and it did rain 2half days out of 10 but we were still in pool and sea it was so hot. Mozzie well they left us alone we used off cream daily instead of aftersun and mozzie bands around ankles. Trips we used thomson went to xhel ha had a great time swimming in lagoon snorkling, food and drink and towels all day inclusive £52.00 each swim with dolphins extra £150.00 Co Co bongo is a must for all ages show after show all night drinks (37.00) approx taxi £2.50 to 5th ave. Parasail is fantastic over the beach outside book with guys they come around the pool.Evening entertainment was very good dont normally like that sort of thing but this wasnt too tacky and beach party was a good night Abba show, Micheal Jackson Grease very good and dancing after just enjoy it your only young once. Resturant buffett very good , steak resturant was good, didnt like mexicain too spicey for us fresh fruit ,strawberries breakfast and evening marsh mellow dipped in chocolate yum. Nothing here was too much trouble, sun beds no problem around the pool on the beach, booking resturant at breakfast every morning no problem. Monkeys in the trees no problem
Let me start by saying that the staff at this hotel were excellent (best I've experienced in the Caribbean) and the location and hotel grounds were very good. The standard rooms are average but clean.
Stay totally over shadowed by food poisoning on the last two days from a pork dish from the beach restaurant, have now learnt my lesson...if it isn't freshly cooked....eat something that is!!
Food hygiene and monitoring should be much better at a hotel like this.
Thank you for your comments. We are glad you liked the hotel and your stay in Mexico but we are sorry you were not well on your trip. We promote good hygiene practices within hotels, and can assure you when sickness is reported amongst a number of guests, our Quality Team look into this thoroughly.
me and my husband came here for our honeymoon and it was amazing.our room was spotless every day clean towles. always had a fridge full of water and soft drinks. the staff were very nice we made lots of friends i did actually cry when i left coz the whole experience was out of this world. the food was very nice, there was something different most nights which i was worried when we first got there coz im a fussy eater but there was something for every one. the captin hook trip was very good also the speed boat one you get the chance to drive it your self which was wicked. words just cant describe how wonderfull the hoiday was. i deffenatly recommend any one who goes to go to coco bongos just really fab experience but do leave all valuebles in your room. the beach was lovely very clean pure waters, lots of free water sports to try. i would deffenatly go back.
staff were lovely and friendly, food quality and choice was great. Hotel and location was both good and safe. Very good holiday in general.....
Overall an enjoyable holiday, the hotel & staff were good. Speciality restaurants a bit disappointing but main buffet fine though vegetarian options are limited (much to my daughter's disappointment). Beach and sea fab and watersports provided were good. Pre-booked excursions to Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum and booked the Mayan Adventure Snorkel Experience in resort. The excursions to the Mayan sites were interesting and enjoyable and the guides were very informative; steamy hot in the jungle though and remember to take plenty of insect repellent. I did feel the cost of these excursions was high (especially when you see what is charged locally) and that Thomson were milking it somewhat. The snorkelling experience was a hoot. You get the opportunity to swim in a cavern, a cenote and a lagoon with loads of tropical fish(we saw barracuda, sting-rays and turtles to name just three). Remember to take bio-degradable sunscreen to protect the aquatic life (can be obtained in resort if required) and also plenty of low denomination currency (pesos) for tips (many service staff, tour guides, etc. rely on this). Playacar is a purpose built resort complex next to Playa Del Carmen which is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride away. Get away from 5th Avenue and there are some interesting local restaurants worth exploring.
