Arrived at the hotel at 3am only to find we'd have to wait another 30 minutes in a check in queue. Seriously what were they thinking having one receptionist checking in a coach of 70 people! Next morning down for breakfast and oh dear if this is the sign of things to come its going to be a long week. The eggs looked liked they been cooked the evening before and most of the cooked food was seriously dripping in grease! Toast it was then, but no the first bit of bread I pick up had mould on it! Luckily for us the food did get slighlty better and dinner was definitely better than breakfast. The hotel itself it situated right next to a beach, ideal you may think. How wrong youd be, its a shingle beach and footwear is recommended at all times. I cut my foot twice attempting to go into the sea. The resort is very quiet with very little night life so we stayed in the hotel every evening. The Thomson entertainers were ok if a little full of themselves. The local entertainment team were down right irriatating. It took them about 20 minutes just to make an announcement on the stage because of all the different languages theyd recite things in! seriously I think Spanish and English would suffice, especially considering most of the guests were either Spanish or English. Around the pool was a relatively noisy affair with the local entertainers loving the sounds of their own voices most of the time!
" Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear the standard of food at the hotel along with the entertainment appear not to meet our usual high standards. We will pass these comments back to our suppliers. "
I stayed at the Golden Taurus with my son, aged 6, my friend & her daughter, also aged 6, at the end of June 2009. What can I say, we had a fantastic time! I have over 10 years experience of the travel industry & my friend has 20 years experience & we have stayed in 100's of hotels but we could not fault this one. Ok the resort is quiet but there are bars, cafes & 1 nightclub about 10mins walk away, but we didn't need them. We were booked on half board and the food was great, not a cold chip in sight!! We both have 2 quite fussy eaters, but both kids filled their plates everynight & morning, there was a very wide variety of food to suit everyone and it was re-freshed often. The staff were very friendly, and the entertainers kept everyone amused from am-pm. We had 2 connecting rooms which were great, plenty of room & very clean. We did request quiet rooms, having read some reviews, and had rooms overlooking the 'quieter pool' with a sea view. We spent our time in the main pool which the kids loved, we could get drinks & snacks from the pool bar & the snack bar was handy at lunchtime for anything from baguettes to pizza, and of course chips! I would recommend this hotel to anyone with children of any age, who like to have fun! We would definitely go back to the Golden Taurus Park again.
This was our 1st visit to mainland Spain. We arrived at 10am - we couldn't get into room until 1pm, but were able to drop off bags in secure room and change kids into t-shirts and shorts and go exploring the area! We had a family room, it was spotless, but could probably do with a bit of updating of the decor - and could have done with a fridge! Staff very helpfull and if they couldn't understand you, went and got someone who could translate for them! This was our second Thomson Family Club Holiday and this one was outstanding and by far the best! Mainly due to the kids club reps in the resort, who went the extra mile! Kids loved being able to go and get pancakes made for them in the morning and my daughter especially loved the chocolate croissants - you did have to pay for drinks with dinner, but you could just buy a large bottle of water if you didn't want to spend a lot a money, and it would only cost 3 euros. We could't fault the food, it was varied every day, we stayed for a week and on the last night it was Chinese night and all the waiters were dress dressed up in fancy dress and it was a themed food night - that was really good, and even the kids loved the oriental food. The sun loungers were really uncomfy and we resorted to buying airbeds to put on them and cover with a towel to make them bearable - come on Taurus Park: get new sun beds! The hotel was a bit out of the way so thats why we havn't scored it better on the location front - even still, in the evenings we mainly stayed in as we found that the hotel provided everything we needed for both ourselves and the kids. Over the road there was a small, reasonably priced supermarket, (closed between 2pm 5pm), that stocked everthing we needed, and an ATM on the corner if we needed cash. Only 5 - 10 minutes walk away were lots of bars and cafes if you fancied somewhere to explore and we got a fab portrait done of our daughter. We also went on an excursion to Barcelona and to the Neu Camp, the highlight being the Fountains in the evening. However, if your hoping to do some shoping in Barcelona there isn't much time for it, if you go to the Neu Camp as we only had about an hour and a half to get something to eat and a quick walk about the city centre. At least 3 hours recommended. As U2 where playing when we where there we couldn't get onto the pitch so it was a bit of a wasted journey, so perhaps check before you book to make sure you can on to the pitch before booking. Good luck!
Just returned on the 25th June, family of five with three children 6 and under. Having read some of the reviews my expectations were low however the hotel exeeded my expectations and overall we had a good holiday. We had a family suite which was spacious. spotlessly clean but beds were not comfortable and the air con did not blow out cold air after around 2 am which made some nights a little sticky. Bathroom great but shower trickled, no tea coffee making facilities in room.Had great location to the front of the hotel. Food was varied, good choice but a little repetitive, meat was salty and tasted the same. Salad choice great as was dessert. Breakfasts best meal, pancakes very tasty. We sat outside on the terrace for all our meals which was more relaxed. Pools very good, we spent our time around the quiet pool with bar at the centre, no loud music or annoying reps. Hotel very child friendly. Pineda is only 5 minutes walk, cant be described as a pretty resort but has a few little bars and cafes, worth visiting. Callella can be visited by land train which is cheap, a busier more bustling town with lots of shops and atmosphere. Recommend Pepes tavern which is just around the corner from hotels, great food and reasonable. Marineland is well worth the visit, great dophin display. If you are due to visit then expect a good time, the holiday is good value for money and the facilties are great for a three star.
First time we have taken our 2 children abroad, they loved it. we had a family suite (2 adjoining rooms). had a problem with a very squeaky bed it woke all of us up when one of us turned over, it took 6 days and an irate husband refusing to move from reception until it was sorted, hence the poor rating for room comfort, apart from that the room was spacious, clean and well maintained with a good sized balcony, accessed from the parents room. Positives: very clean, good food but maybe a little repetative, and no drinks provided at evening meals, great pools, friendly staff, child friendly, bathroom towels provided, hairdryer provided, clothes airer on balcony, cash machine straight outside the hotel. The kids clubs were ok, not great. Negatives: 6 days to sort out the bed! the evening entertainment in the main family bar was at best poor and at worst dire, and the same night after night, looked like the reps had had 10mins to get something together to entertain the troups. the habana (adult) bar had a pianist who was at best an average kareoke singer. The sunbeds round the 'quiet' pool were extremely uncomfy and quite a few had broken slats. Outside the hotel there was an awful lot of graffiti, it felt quite threatening there was so much of it. Pineda is quite a run down area, the hotel seems as if its been dropped in there. a short walk away is the main town which in parts is lovely, couple of nice bars/cafes. Good value overall for a 3 star but once was enough for us. Barcelona is a fab day out and the stadium trip is a must.
