Salou has a lovely long beach with neighbouring resorts only a bus ride away. The Avenida is a 5-10 min walk to the beach passing plenty of bars and shops. The only drawback are the sun beds which are 4 euros each to hire. The hotel is immaculate a very large pool with a life guard on duty there is both a shallow end and a deep pool with its own fountain. The reps who my 7 and 9 year old thought were fab really make the kids feel at home. The super family disco each evening all the kids enjoyed this and even mum and dad had a chance to win a prize. My husband enjoyed a day off he went on a trip up the mountains and then cycled all the way back down a fab day out for 39 euros. The super family team entertained me and the kids for the day, exercises in the pool followed by some ball games and after dinner the reps against the guests comp and we won. There is plenty of choice at meal times and believe me even my fussy eaters were surprised with how nice the food was especially the puddings. A fab holiday from start to finish. PS forgot to mention the fab thomson the dog

It's the first time we have been to Spain (Salou) We went with two children ages 3 and 6, we really enjoyed the holiday. The accomodation was very basic needs updating but very clean. We ended up being on the side road which was very loud at weekends until 5.00am with people shouting, car engines running and beeping horns. The entertainment round the pool excellent for both children and Adults. Kids disco at night was good watching them dance to Thompson the Dog song. The Kids club can't fault it at all both of my children really enjoyed it and the night-time themes as well which was 3 euro's each for 2 hrs. we didn't eat in the restaurant we went self catering so we did eat out a lot in the restaurants, Uncle Sam's was nice also the Boat House and the chinese buffet was nice as well. The staff were very friendly and polite round the bar happy house was extremely good between 8.00pm - 9.00pm. The sunbeds round the pool were taken up by about 9.15am (the doors opened at 9.00am) and it was such as rush to try and get the best spot and sunbed, the beach was quite near as well about 15mins walk, advise you to buy a sun brolly if you have young children. We went to Barcelona for the day to see the Fountains (it was a long day with two young children), very busy and quite a lot of pick pockets so bewarned. Salou it's self I found to be quite scruffy and smelly which I didn't really enjoy walking round a night with two young children so we always tried to be back for 9.00ish. But the hotel and complex can't fault it at all and especially to the Kidszone club I felt safe and secure leaving my children there knowing they were being looked after well. I'm already looking into my next family holiday with Thompson Superfamily Holiday.

Thomson entertainment team truely excellent against Port Aventura which is really hard considering thats what a lot of people mainly go to Salou for. Some real good nights, fun days too. Sam, Dan, David FANTASTIC, you couldn't want for a better team, they made the holiday for me...thanks guys!! xxx Don't go out for Reps night real fun, or chinese acrobats, Village People, beach party night, or african night, can't remember the groups name sorry...karaoke 50/50 but me my son got up sang it was fun. Make sure you GO OUT for the flamenco dancers...oh dear me! Sunbeds...lol....it's true if you want a bed umbrella right in front of the pool you have to queue up from about 8.30am, get your kids to run like mad, dump your towels, then run again to get a comfy bed mat which costs 2 euros a day. If I wasn't lucky enough to get a mat I would wait until people had gone for the day then pinch one :-) I got beds infront of the pool once in 11 days! Walk in steps to pool. Don't waste your money buying inflatables before you go or whilst you're there as they are not allowed only armbands, and long thin sponge tubes The mini market hours are useless. It is only open 4 a few hours a day. Pegs are only 1euro in the shop. There is a washer and tumbler. Washer 4euros, it uses it's own powder but I put my own in. Don't use tumbler, 3euro a go, it takes twice to get clothes dry, Theres an iron too but you have to pay for it. No need for hairdryer, one in your room. There is a small games room inside and pool table and table football outside under cover Cleanliness excellent for me as I put out the make up my room sign everyday as we needed clean towels after showering. My main maid was lovely and who cleans under their own beds on a daily basis at home for goodness sake!! 2 bed aparts none on 1st floor only 2nd 4th 5th 6th i think, only road view. 1 beds ring or email hotel to try and get low floor. Food was absolutely lovely there was something different each night and yes everything did come with chips but there was also a different types of potato served as well and alot of people will only eat chips..kiddies buffet great too. There was always salad, fry up, toast, meats/cheeses and bread for breakfast, they had HP and ketchup on tap. Ana and her staff were lovely and very friendly. For me Boris and Sarah on reception were really helpful, and we had a laugh with them too. All in all a really great family holiday for me and mine. I highly recommend it

We visited this hotel again for the 4th consecutive year in Aug 07 and again it was fantastic. The food quality and variety had improved yet again. The hotel is located 10 mins walk from the beach, shops are close by and Portaventura is a quick taxi ride or a 20 min walk. The entertainment had improved from Thomsons this year, the reps were very approachable and friendly but still the Golden hotels entertainer, David provided the best entertainment. Both my daughters loved his company especially aquagym. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The down side to the hotel this year however were the sofa beds in the rooms: extremely uncomfortable to say this is a 'family' hotel. The rooms were also dirty compared to previous years. The floors especially in the rooms and the bathrooms. Although maid service is daily the sink in the room didn't look clean all holiday. The hotel rooms/furniture need upgrading. (A lot of guests were also saying this.) The doors to the pool area open at 9am daily but if you want a sunbed by the shallow end of the pool you need to queue from 8am which can be very tiring after a late night! There is also a mad rush to grab a sunbed. Mattresses can be hired daily but they are limited so again these have to be queued for. I am suprised the hotel does not provide enough mattresses for sunbeds?! Kids club is excellent, the reps were amazing taking time out in their lunch hours to speak to the children. The kids sunday night show was great to watch too. Great to see Chris was still there. The hotel has a shop which is reasonably priced and stocks most items. Portaventura is well worth a visit both day and night we purchased a 14 day ticket before we went and used it most days. This is an excellent hotel for families and we have booked again for next year I just hope that the rooms are more comfortable by then! P.s for great entertainment and a night out visit the port salou hotel next door.

Returned from 2 weeks here on 14/08/07 Hotel food was very good, plenty to choose from. We were very unlucky with the room we were allocated (room 220), it was right beside the lift, stairs ran up the side of the apartment, my husband said there must be someone out there with flippers on, we were also facing the road, right in line with the traffic lights Every night, all night cars sat at the lights playing REALLY loud music and shouting at each other, there was 2 spanish discos at the top of the road. Entertainment was the usual bingo and reps STUFF, the professional shows were good. If you want a sunbed dont go to this hotel, the doors are unlocked at 9.00am and everyone runs to get a bed, mat and brolly in the same spot every day, after a week we gave up and went to the beach. On a more positive note Portaventura was excellent, my 6 year old daughter loved it, we also went to La pineda beach, which was lovely and not as busy, If I was ever to return to Costa Dorada I would stay in Cambrills, which was lovely and still near enough the really busy Salou if you like Blackpool with Sun.
