As a group of 3 adults and 6 children we travelled to Thassos on 2nd Aug 09. We were very impressed with the smooth transfers between the mainland and Thassos and vice-versa - thanks to the helpful Thomsons' staff. We stayed in the Susie Apts which we found to be very clean, fairly basic but perfectly adequate for a week's stay. The only negative was the awful, miserable owner who would often yell at the top of his voice to the young children playing in the pool for trivial reasons and would patrol the building like Filtch (the caretaker from Harry Potter) and scare the life out of the children. The Susie Apts are in a prime location - a couple of mins from the beautiful beach and tavernas etc. Overall a fantastic holiday and a fantastic island. Just beware of Filtch!

Just returned from these appatments, our 5th visit. They offer simple but clean accomodation, need a few more kitchen items perhaps but it's a great get away from it all place to stay. Pool always clean and we notice a few rooms have Air/con, the owner says by 2009 all should have it, paying him for the use. We seem to meet up with many return guests and this year would say that 60% were returning again like us. Rep helpful, and a lot of the Thomson staff live on the Island so are very knowlegdable, we prefer this end of the bay away from the much busier Golden Beach end. A good sytem is operated to get luggage to the resorts once leaving the Airport and the travel to the local port takes about 20 mins, and dependant on the timetable of the ferries, a 50 min sail to the island , back on a bus and a relatively swift journey to the studios to find your cases already there for you. No lugging on and of Busses/ Ferry / busses !!!. However if you expect "The Captain" who owns and runs the studios to open the bar, think again. Its a joke amongst the regulars that one day we will see him with his wife and daughter serving evening drinks , but not yet!!! A couple of local shops nearby for supplies and a pretty fair Bus service to the villages in the hills, the Main town,or around the island. Plenty of local taverna's a short walk away on the sea front but generally no loud music to spoil the tranquility. Thomai, great for pizzas, Kroumbosa and next door's Korali always very popular with good quality and reasonably priced local food . For lunches we liked to go up into the village of Panagia, walk around the narrow streets, with water flowing from the local springs and then sit down for what I say is one of the best mixed grills at the Grill in the village centre .This is just accros the way from a local gift shop run by the owner's wife. Over the years we have been to Thassos we have noticed a change in the nationality of vistors, now a lot more East Europeans travel to the island and it makes for a more cosmopolitan holiday. The Greeks also seem to Holiday on the Island as well but only in the months of July and August. As Thassos is the most northerly Greek Island, at the beginning and end of a short season temperatures are not as high as some of the other Greek resorts but this may suit some people. A friendly and relaxing place to go for a holiday , and yes, even though we only returned last weekend, next years visit has been booked.

First of all, our journey to Thassos and the service provided by Thomson was excellent - we had a completely stress-free flight and transfer via coach and ferry to the studios. Our room was basic but large and clean. The matresses were very firm, a bit too firm actually, but seemed very new. The pool area was immaculate, and there is a freezer with icecreams in it next to the pool. Just help yourself and pay the owner when you see him! The resort when we were there was quiet and the beach half empty. The taverna owners were so welcoming and friendly and the food excellent. The house red wine is lovely and soooo cheap! It was so nice to be in such a laid back, unspoilt, truly Greek place. The island is extremely hilly, and the roads a little scary, but we hired a jeep anyway and explored Panagia (a very old but well-kept village) and found Psili Ammos, and lovely cove with white sandy beach. We were in heaven that day, despite running over a huge snake on the way back! We booked the Thomson Sunshine Boat Trip, which unfortunately turned out to be a complete waste of money, as it poured with rain the hole day and we all got very wet and chilled. We never made the secluded beach only accessible by boat and ended up being taken back to our hotels by coach after lunch in a harbour. We later found out the best thing to do is just turn up at the harbour in Thassos Town on a good day and hire a boat there and then for half the price! Overall, this holiday was exellent, and I would recommend it to anyone who really wants to get away from it all, chill out and soak up the sun on beautiful beaches and eat good Greek food and wine beside the beach. Carol

first visit to Thassos what a great island still very Greek and traditional in many places although there is some building work in the resorts. we stayed at Suzie apartments in scala portamia. Very clean basic Greek what we expect for S/C. the rooms qiute spacious ,very clean ,towels changed everyother day and linen changed in middle week. crockery a bit spartan but eneough for what we needed. Pool kept very clean but could have done with a few more sunbeds. The tavernas are very good ,we ate at a lot our favourites Krambousa where we had a special anniversary meal. Magic coast, Captains,Agrigrili. phillipi. the worst place we ate was Green Seas on there Greek music night, meal wasnt what we ordered and service awful not eneough staff, loads of people complaining. Most tavernas bring you a free drink to start with and a free small dessert. We found the meals very good value for money. Hired a car for 3 days from Potos and explored the villages, the mountain springs and scenery so beautiful. we loved Alliki Bay and exploring the old ruins. We went on the walk with Rose and her lunch which was fantastic well worth money and a Great day out learnt so much about the island and its history. Will definitley go back to Suzie apartments.

This was our third visit to Thassos and the Susie Studios at Scala Potamia, the accomodation is excellent , clean and although the owner is a very quiet man he will do his upmost to make your holiday enjoyable, however, Thassos is not the island it was once, there is a gread deal of developmnet going on there now and I am afraid that despite the Greek people being so very friendly towards us Brits they are ruining a beautiful Island.

They are in a catch 22 situation, they wish to exploit tourism and yet in doing so have created an untidy mess especially in Scala Potamia.

On previous holidays there we had enjoyed a lovely view from our balcony of the little harbour, however, with all the building going on this has now completely disappeared.

As a result we have decided not to return.
