Once again Skala and the Paspalis Hotel did not dissapoint despite being very late in the season the weather and the welcome were excellent. We have stayed in the resort and the hotel many times before and the welcome is wonderful. My wife is now disabled and has difficulty getting around but everyone was very helpful and considerate. Not only the staff at the Paspalis but also the taxi drivers and not forgetting Dennis and Paris at the Green Pradise along the beach who always look after us and make us feel very welcome. Would recommend eating at the Paspalis where the food is excellent for quality and quantity but if you feel like wandering further the try the Galliera and the Skandi up in the village excellent food and hospitality.
This was our second time to skala. First time was amazing and we looked forward to going back. This time we booked a package holiday through Thomson so we would have some contact with a rep if we needed anything and would know who to turn to. Unfortunately, as we did not need a transfer, this also meant as far as Thomson were concerned we needed no contact with them. We were not given a welcome pack, did not meet a rep, was not giving any info about the resort or how to contact thomson. No one contacted us, (our last holiday in Tenerife the thomson rep was awesome & called us to make sure everything was fine), we didn't know how to get in touch with thomson, and we were not told what time we needed to leave our room etc. The hotel itself was terrible. It was so basic, it is highly overrated on Tripadvisor, it was small, not even as big as my bedroom at home, the bathroom was so small I hit my head on the sink when I sat on the toilet!! It was so old fashioned and looked like it had not been updated for over 20 years. The manager/owner Nikos was incredibly rude, and every single extra you had to pay for. It was a room to rent rather than staying in a hotel. The pool was nice but the sunbeds were all old and broken, you felt like you were sat on the metal bars as the material had sunk from years of heavy use! The manager even went as far as to shout & scream at us when we left an honest review on Tripadvisor on the day we left. An hour before our taxi arrived he came and found us and started telling us how we would put him out of business if we put bad reviews. Perhaps this is why it is so overrated, you are threatened into putting a good review. The area itself is nice, loads to do, the weather in September though is very unpredictable (3 days of thunder storms & heavy rain) and our room flooded (due to massive gaps between the door & floor). Good selection of restaurants etc. I would go back, but NEVER to Paspalis. The only reason this hotel is still going is the large amount of repeat older customers. If you are young, and it's your first time, stay away from the Paspalis. Also, if you want contact with a rep, book a transfer, otherwise you may as well book the flight & hotel separately & save yourself some money!!
Our second visit to Skala, but first time to Paspalis. What a lovely friendly hotel and Taverna. Our room was much larger and better appointed than some we have stayed in, in Greece. All the staff made us feel very welcome and we hope to return again soon.
Just got back from a great stay at the Paspalis. Skala is a great place for a chill holiday with a small place feel and plenty of choice for 7 nights in the reseraunts situated on or close to the main street. And the Paspalis is a close 10 minutes walk from all the action, with the beech across the road. The people in the hotel are are very friendly and helpful and a great pool, bar and attached reseraunt. It is very rare we go back to the same place twice as we are working our way around the Greek islands, but both of us agree that if sitting around and not a touring holiday was required, this would be the top of our list.
