Having just returned from a week long stay at the Dionysos we have mixed feelings about the hotel. Location was excellent - in a pedestrianised area a few metres from the seafront to one side and bar street on the other. Despite its location the hotel quiet at night with no noise coming from inside the hotel - not even a door closing. On the down side, several of the features advertised by Thomson or Skytours were wrongly advertised. There was no hydromassage area in the pool - it looked like this had been ripped out years ago. Showers around the pool did not work and you had to pay extra even for the safety deposit box and fridge in the room (which is usually standard in a 3star hotel in such a hot climate) and Thomson failed to mention either of these facts. Apartments were clean but basic and were perfectly adequate for our needs. As for the apartments being refurbished between 2003 and 2005, I think they must have missed ours out - although clean they looked somewhat 'in decline'. All in all, we probably would stay at the Dionysos again, for it location if nothing else, and would be prepared for all the little things Thomson failed to mention before our first visit.

We love visiting Paphos and this was our 4th visit there, and we enjoyed ourselves as usual when out and about. The restaurants are all fantastic and we especially love Viva Cyprus (opposite Hotel Annabelle), Rose Corner (up by the Harbour), the Moorings and the Pingouine Cafe, these are fantastic and are all good value for money. BUT it was very disappointing to end up in the Hotel Dionysis. On walking into the hotel there was a strong smell of cat urine, we were then told that our rooms were on 2 seperate floors (usually when you have a block booking which includes children hotels put your rooms together). We didn't find the staff very friendly apart from the Guy in the Pool Bar, unfortunately though this was only open between 11 and 5 and there was no other bar inside the hotel. No entertainment arranged in the evenings. Breakfast selection was poor, you had bacon one morning and then sausage the next, never both at the same time. The only nice things were the sizes of the rooms (which were slightly dated though and in need of decorating) and the swimming pool. When asking for a courtesy room to use to shower and change for our return journey (as we were not being picked up until 7pm), we were told we had to use the gym showers (which was in the cellar) and there would be towels down there. When going down to the gym all the towels were dirty and as the outside temperature was 39 degrees, you were wetter after you dried than when you got in the shower, as there was no air conditioning, you also had to be careful you did not break your neck going down the stairs as there were loose carpet treads. We have stayed in 3 star hotels before and we did not think this one worthy.
