We spent a week at the Eden Mar in March 2013 and we couldn't fault it. Everything works like clockwork. Staff are hardworking and very friendly. Food was good. It was very relaxing. We used the courtesy bus or local bus to get to and from Funchal. We had some good trips around the island some by taxi, some organised trips. We enjoyed walking the lavadas. We also enjoyed sitting around the hotel pool in the sunshine and swimming in the indoor poor. We will be back!
As ever Eden Mar has really friendly helpfull staff. The gardens are always lovely. The hotel orchid garden is a lovely peacefull haven. Just sitting there surrounded by the orchids is so calming. We would not think of staying anywhere else in Madeira. Rooms are spacious and clean. Should the weather be wet, there is a choice of two indoor swimming pools and activities including wine tasting and portugese lessons. The TV has bbc and itv channels as well as other english channels. My favorite place to visit is Monte palace gardens, which can be reached on a normal bus. The japanese garden right at the bottom is not to be missed, but coming back up is very steep, however there is a land train available back to the top.
This was my 5th visit to Funchal and my third stay at the Eden Mar Suite Hotel and are already talking about a return trip next year. My husband and I have always been in the winter months but would like to visit in May or June to see the island in full bloom. We stayed in room 1234 which was huge. The only downside was we were on the wrong side of the hotel to see the wonderful sun sets so when we return we will request to stay on the other side. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants but two we can recommend are the Chinese restaurant opposite the hotel and the steak/fish bar on the upper level of the supermarket. The staff were very friendly and the food excellent. The reception staff at the hotel were also excellent. The only slightly negative I can say about the stay was the room maid on several occasions forgot to leave the correct number of towels in the bathroom. I can recommend a jeep safari and also a trip to Monte to pick up the levada walk to Blandys. Stopping along the way at the lovely Jasmine cafe in the hills for tea and home made cakes and scones. For the first time we brought flowers back from Madeira and though the quality of the flowers was good the florist we used actually only supplied 3 birds of paradise when there should have been 4 in the package we chose. We obviously did not know this until we arrived home and opened them. Weather was fantastic and we were able to enjoy the sunshine in the lovely gardens of the Eden Mar On the luxury sun beds overlooking the sea. Whilst you stay do not forget to look in the orchid garden in the hotel grounds. Beautiful. Looking forward to our 6th visit !
The staff continue to impress with their cheerful, attentive attitude. The rooms are spacious, clean well maintained with comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet offers a very wide variety of food, that includes cooked continental with an extensive range of fruit, while the breads are just wonderful! We ate in the Med restaurant on 'Meat Night' enjoyed real quality steaks an extensive wine list. 'Fish Night' in The Alfama provided good fish but the.desserts did not look so appetising. The Basilica provided a rich tasting Lasagne, an excellent Risotto, very good steak succulent fish, supported by a creditable wine list on the 2 occasions that we ate there. A little further a field we enjoyed eating at L'Osteria twice, relishing the steak, chicken the Scabbard Fish with Banana in Passion fruit sauce, while the Pannacotta Crepe Suzette also found favour. Although all but one of the men in our party would not join the Aqua Aerobic sessions, that was their loss the 'teacher' was so very cheerful, cheeky affirming that we all pushed ourselves to the limit for a thorough workout! Can't recommend it highly enough to offset all the calories ingested in between. The hotel Shuttle Bus provides a reliable return service to from Funchal, but be advised, it leaves very much on time! Another most enjoyable stay with a return for a 3rd year running very much in mind for next year..
