Just arrived back from 2 week stay and felt the need to post my review. Myself, husband and 2 young children were abandoned at the hotel with no rep to meet us and advised no Thomson rep based at the hotel. We had no contact from Thomsons all holiday to check if everything was ok. No information for our flight home posted anywhere. Only found out after 3 days on and off trawling through the Thomson guides to find one in English. Luckily fantastic hotel staff were our saviours. You need to remove kids club as an option as unless your children are fluent German speakers it isn't an option. All songs, games activities all in German. Beautiful rooms pictured but be fair and show annexe accomodation as well(not so beautiful)so people are aware of what to expect. That said we had a lovely time............no thanks to Thomsons.

Four of us had an excellent holiday at this hotel, the food was plentiful and always hot, the service was pleasant and the reception staff were very helpful and obliging. We had large and spacious bedrooms which were kept lovely and clean by the staff, we had a number of trips out on the local buses, one to the nearby local market. We would certainly return there and hope to do so this year.
Booked for a relaxing break in the hotel but ended up in the appartments. These were spacious and fairly comfortable but the holiday was complety spoiled by the noise of our surrounding neighbours and their kids. Not the place to be if you don't want kids around.This is a location on the beach with nothing around (except walking) and if you are of the active type you should think again about this place.Food is good if you like salads. Anyone wanting good hot food will be very disappointed as it is always cold (especially the breakfasts). Only one microwave for the restaurant.The all inclusive bar is not all that it should be and is on a self serve buffet service until 7:00pm. Pretty disappointing.Entertainment was good but unfortunately starts early in the evening and if you eat late then you might as well forget it.All in all a I would suggest this is a holiday for anyone that wants to spend eight hours a day burning on the beach and is not particular about good food. If this is not the case then find something in town.
Lovely hotel, beautiful setting, food generally good although the Canarian restaurant is poor and the wine is served lukewarm in there. Spirits and beer awful, just lager available. The staff give all their attention to German guests. Even the catering staff gave a welcome talk in German, nothing in English. Thomson Representative 'dumped' us at the door of the hotel never to be seen again. No rep on return to the airport either, totally unacceptable. Oh, a mighty plus, the beach is gorgeous.Thomson Replies - We?re sorry to hear you were not happy, in particular with the disappointing rep service. Riu Olivia Beach Hotel has just been referbished and now is an all inclusive resort hotel. Ideal for adults and couples but not so good for children if they do not like the beach. This hotel is right on the beach, the beach is almost a mile wide in places and streches for miles large dunes of very fine yellow sand which is blown over from the sahara desert 90 miles away across the Alantic. The beach is a clothes optional and in the main nude other than the section of beach just in front of the hotel which is safe for children swimming with life gards on patrol and if red flags flying no baithing is allowed. The hotel and staff are great and the food is very good to. The hotel is frequented mainly by the Germans but they are mostly very frendly. We have stayed at RIU OLIVIA BEACH HOTEL severn times and we think it is great value and a great holiday.
