We have been to the Cala Bona Hotel and resort for the last 5 years after coming across it by mistake....it has been the best 'mistake' we have ever made. The resort is lovely and clean .....virtually pedestrianised with the exception of an odd car and the cycle lane down the sea front. Dont go to Cala Bona if you want parties, discos or lots of 'Pub' entertainment - there are lots of bars and restaurants - all very welcoming. As for the Cala Bona Hotel, we have stayed there everytime we booked. You MUST book a seaview room, if you try to 'save money' you will be put at the back of the hotel with no view.....enough said!! The food is not very varied but always good, staff extremley friendly and will go out of there way to help.Needless to say - we are going back 2nd July this year - in fact 4 generations of my family will be there at the same time. And I've just booked for August 2012............what more can I say x x x
have been going to cala bona hotel for 7years now and would not go anywhere else, great place to relax and chill out, staff hav always been helpful.rooms hav always been clean, love to sit back and watch over marina, all booked up for june again and so looking forward to it.
What can I say, rooms from hell, small, noisy, cramped, no air conditioning, no balcony, curtains that did not block the light out , depressing and dark, dirty bed clothes, lights that did not work in the room, and furniture that was out of the seventies. I can honestly say in all my 38 years of travelling abroad I have never stayed in a room that was so oppressive. So many other people were in the same situation it seemed , asking reception to upgrade them to a different room, I was ninth on the list, even though I was asthmatic I was still not offered any alternative. My one night in this hotel was a night I want to forget, luckily the rep, after lots of persistance from me, managed to move me to the Sa Como Playa Hotel and Spa at a cost of £300 (expensive just for one person) it was that or get the next flight home as there was no way I could have coped with that room. The Thomson rep said there are a few rooms that still need upgrading , I cannot understand why Thomson still use these rooms. The hotel was in a great location but very noisy at night and I would not recommend anyone to go to this hotel ever. I would have rather paid to come home than stay another night in the awful room
" Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear the hotel appears not to meet our usual high standards. The Hotel Cala is an older style hotel with a more traditional Spanish feel and is indeed very popular with repeat guests. We would like to inform you that this hotel is undergoing refurbishment for the coming season of 2011. We do always try and explain in our brochures and on our website any of the differences in bedroom comforts with regard to the different room types which some hotels have to offer. We do however, apologise for any inconvenience or you may have experienced and trust you had an enjoyable holiday at our Platinum hotel Sa Coma Playa. Thank you once again for your time in bringing this matter to our attention. "

Arrived on the Tuesday morning looking forward to 14 days of relaxation. That feeling dissapeared as soon as we opened the door to our room. Nice sea and harbour view but too small for 2 adults and a nine year old and not enough wardrobe space either (single wardrobe). No air conditioning, just a fan sitting on the floor and the bathroom was dark (dark green tiles), dingy and lacking any type of proper ventilation,if you know what i mean. Balcony very small and very cramped with 3 chairs and a table! Immediately complained at reception who told us to come back the following morning to see if there was an upgrade available Decided to ring Thomson UK helpline and spoke to a very nice chap called James who told us he would get in touch with the local rep and try and get us a room upgrade or even a move to another hotel - very positive. That first night in the hotel was herrendous. Due to the lack of air conditioning and the hot weather we had to sleep with balcony doors open. Unfortunately the hotle had live music on at the front of the hotel directly beneath our room. Needless to say not a lot of slepp was had that night as the music didn't finish until 12.00 and the crowds of people present didn't disperase until the very early hours. After a bit of tooing and frowing between James at Thomson UK and the local rep we were told that there were at least 8 or 9 people ahead of us in a qeue for a room with air conditioning or there would be a room available at the Hotel Talayot in Cala Millor on the Saturday, just 15 mins walk away. We decided to check out the Talayot and as soon as we entered the hotel new it would be a big improvement. Had too pay an extra £300 to upgrade but was definitely worth it. The only 2 things the Cala Bona had going for it was it's location and the food which was excellent, slightly better than the Talayot if anything. The old part of this hotel needs a complete refurbishment behind the beautiful facade. If you ever consider staying at this hotel I recommend you check which block you are staying in as there are 5 separate ones which in itself is not ideal for using the central restaurant. Thanks to James and Samm the local Thomson rep we were able to really enjoy the last 10 days of our holiday. Just a shame room allocation and sub-standard rooms made the first 4 days very uncomfortable.
