excellent flight with funny child onboard safety film. we arrived in warm but drizzling weather at faro airport. we got v wet on long walk from plane to coach. transfer was interesting, 90 minutes of coastline and other hotels with good commentary by the reps. first impressions of do cerro were confusing. it seemed really small in the foyer. it had a foreign smell!! but the staff were so friendly and cheerful with perfect english. the hotel was excellent. we had opted for sea view and for the extra cost it was well worth it. drinks looking at the bay with beautiful sunrises and lovely view of a school and the walk down to the seafront. a few noisy dogs but very peaceful location. the rest of the hotel had lots of nooks and crannies with sun decks and views. lots of steps esp to dining room. stair lift available if needed. the food was the best! wonderful quality and choice. different each night apart from the sweets which were usually similar but by then i was too full and usually had fresh fruit. outdoor pool was chilly but lovely once you were in. i imagine in summer it would be very warm. there were limited loungers in the sun and in summer this may be an issue. as it was there were only about 25 of us by the pools. the indoor pool was much warmer but you needed a swim hat. we could have saved ourselves 10 euros for 2 hats had we known and taken our own! buses run from outside the hotel to the bus station where you could travel to most local towns. there are open topped tours at 13 euros for day and little train rides round the town too. we visited lagos, and 2 more to the east -names forgotten. walking round old and new town easy and safe. great bars with beer 1.50 a pint. the old town was full of nice shops and very reasonable gifts. beautiful shells on beach. 2 hours walk saw us do the whole length and back round the headland. harbour and mariner to the west of hotel worth a walk too. we didnt do any trips from the hotel as we wanted a rest. make sure you save space and weight in your luggage for the cheap local drinks- we tried them in the cocktails and then found them in the shops!! the wine at the table was very nice roughly £10 a bottle. entertainment on 2 nights. very good. both singers - one very funny!!! make sure you pack a fleece for the cooler nights in october. swimming in the sea didnt happen and one day it was really rough at high tide. local fishermen warning families of the waves. definitiely re
