This was out third stay at the Platja D'Or and needless to say, it won't be out last. The hotel is in an excellent location, half an hour either way along the main road or beach brings you to shops, bars etc. The beach is one of the best, even better than any Caribbean, clean with beautiful shallow water. The hotel staff are brilliant and cannot do enough for people which is why there are so many returning guests. The rooms are very comfy, yes the beds are firm but excellent for anyone who has back trouble and the creaking can be solved by moving the frame away from the headboard - simple! There is an excellent choice of food which is always well cooked, missed the poolside snack bar this year though. Daytime activities are good fun, you don't have to join in if you don't want to but it helps. The evening entertainment consists of a quiz for a bottle of bubbly, bingo for big bux sometimes over 400 Euros, then visiting artists or in-house by Tracey, partner Bruce and David who really do their very best despite the air conditioning/sound problems in the entertainment lounge. They have cut the visiting acts down this year but Elvis and the Teddybears were really good and so was YMCA tribute. They need a few more acts to get people up dancing and maybe better music at the end of the night. I must just add that Emma the Thomson Rep is one of the best they have had at the hotel, she goes out of her way to help with anything and makes you feel like a person and not just a faceless entity who pays out the money. Altogether another brilliant holiday was had by myself, hubby and a growing number of friends who love the hotel and one of the best things of course is........IT'S ADULT ONLY. PLEASE CAN WE HAVE MORE ADULT ONLY HOTELS FOR THOSE OF US WHO NEED TO GET AWAY FROM KIDS AND ALL THAT THEY BRING WITH THEM!!!

The Platja D'Or is a clean, comfortable, perfectly adequate tourist hotel fairly typical of its genre. The food is pretty much as you would expect, although often uninspiring and clearly focused on the Spanish perception of the food that brits enjoy. Staff are friendly and helpful, the hotel grounds and pool much better than I had anticipated being situated right next to the main road into Alcudia. Where this place really scores is in it's proximity to the fabulous beach that stretches all the way from C'an Picafort to the Port of Alcudia. a wonderful stretch of soft sand fringing the (usually) warm, calm, shallow water of the bay of Alcudia. Whilst this hotel is adults only it is far from hectic - probably the reverse, catering mostly for those of us having reached a more mellow age, seeking a more tranquil relaxing break. I would certainly keep this on my short list of places to go to again.

We had a great holiday here. We could not fault the hotel.Only one little fault, the dress code for dinner wasnt adhered to.We had a lady wearing a bikini one night. Several men in shorts and one bare chested. It does put you off your food. The staff were great nothing was too much trouble and the bar staff certainly earn their money. The Thomson rep Emma unfortunately was the worst rep ever. The welcome meeting was obviously a chore for her. She was like a machine gun rattling off at speed and one poor lady who dared to ask a question nearly had her head bitten off.She failed to give any info about the hotel and at a later date when someone complained that they hadnt been told picnic lunches wer available she said they were not yet Matt the other Thomson rep advised that they were.We did not book any trips because we had no confidence in the reps.

A no smoking hotel this is not, with the exeption of the restaurant and show room there was no escapeing second hand smoke. And i thought that the european law had forced hotels to keep smokers seperated, not in the Platja D,or. The lobby toilets are so small and limited to Two, there was a queue for both ladys and gents. The hotel limited the drinks to two at any time and served the Tea and Coffee,s from the same bar, this slowed everything up as planned ! Dispite this being a British ? hotel ,there was always a problem with staked out sun beds, which the hotel put up a sign and did,nt enforce. So be up early and fight the pensioners off . as they have paid, don,t you know . Bag a bed and go to the market ? till noon. Little or no privacy in the rooms as the en suite has glass doors, beds like boards and paper thin walls ,be careful what you say to your wife at night, as walls have ears. Finally be prepared for a 30 euro charge for the safe and 10 euro for the T V remote for three channels. Great location and no kids but could do so much better .NRS
