From start to finish our stay at the Bristol was perfect. We arrived to a bottle of champagne in our room as a honeymoon gift, and received another bottle towards the end of our stay (they must have paid attention to our taste!). Our room was very clean and spacious, with a gorgeous view over Sorrento and the bay across to Mount Vesuvius. The shower was a bit iffy on the first morning but we reported it and they fixed it straight away. The dining experience was exceptional - the small team of waiters provided a friendly, personal and efficient service, and the food was sublime. An extensive choice was on offer for breakfast and lunch (if you chose to switch the meal from dinner), with a more selective menu (changing daily) in the evening. The restaurant and bar had unspoilt views to enjoy with your meal or wine. The pool was great, very tranquil with the views from the sun loungers and good for real swimming - not full of kids splashing about. The walk to town was easy and enjoyable, 10 minutes at strolling pace, and the reception staff were very helpful if we needed tips on where to go outside the hotel.
The town itself is beautiful and authentic, with lots of gems to be found for dining and drinking particularly if you ventured off the main streets into the lanes. We enjoyed the Cafe Latino on the main road, but we really didn't have a bad meal all week. We found places could be a bit pricey in general but we had heard this so we were prepared for it.
I would recommend Sorrento to couples looking for a romantic and relaxing break, and the Bristol fits the bill 100.
We would have liked this hotel if we had a balcony, instead we were put on floor 1 with 2 windows that didn't even open. It was very noisy from the traffic passing just under our room, so much in fact that I had to use ear plugs to be able to sleep. This was all reported to the staff on reception who gave the air that they couldn't have cared less. Advice to anyone booking this place-don't if its less than 6 months before you take your holiday as you too could end up in the "dungeon" Otherwise the food was nice, staff in restaurant were very efficient, no reserving of beds with towels - so no worry about getting a sunbed. Sorrento was a lovely place and not as expensive as we thought it would be-beer 3-4 euros, wine the same, although the hotel prices were a lot more. Also if you are thinking of getting married here be aware its like a conveyor belt- we saw 1 every half hour on a tuesday!!
