Sorrento is a lovely resort although much busier than when I last visited. There is a wide range of restaurants and bars to visit, but beware, food and especially drinks are expensive. There are several places to visit in the vicinity, Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Ischia, Capri and The Almalfi Run to name just a few. Organised trips are quite expensive but most destinations can be reached by local train, bus or boat. The Hotel Bristol is situated at the side of a cliff with the most spectacular views of the area. However, we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of the rooms. The decor was dated as was the furniture, the balconies on the majority of rooms are very narrow and unless you have a good head for heights, this can be very daunting. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms but having spoken to other holidaymakers from the resort, this is normal practice in Italy. The breakfasts were faultless but the evening meals disappointing. All choices of main courses came with the same potatoes and vegetable which sometimes were not suitable. The staff in the dining room were wonderful. Drinks in the hotel were extortionate so it is advisable to keep a running record of what you spend to avoid a nasty shock at the end of your holiday. All in all the hotel was good, the rooms were just disappointing when compared to the photographs on line.
The hotel was Excellent The staff were Excellent The only problem was that the noise penetration from the adjacent room was unsatisfactory but probably caused by the construction of the building The representative on the tour of the town could have spoken louder and stood at a higher level when possible The starting time from the hotel for the excursion to Capri was brought forward by 70 mins requiring an early breakfast and this alteration was NOT notified by the representative but provided from other fellow excursionists. Consequently the excursion would have been missed completely. The representative also did NOT inform us of the Tour of Italy cycle race and the firework displays in the evenings - So I assume that Thomson is only interested in any activities that require payment and NOT the QUALITY of the holiday in general for the benefit of its customers PETER JONES
It was out first visit to Italy and first package holiday for a long time as we like to be independent We arrived around 10.30am but didn't get to the hotel till around 3pm Thomsons said that there were road works but with that and dropping off other holiday makers to their hotels first it took far too long! It should only take around an hour, we would go back but we would just book a flight and make our own way in future. The Hotel Bristol was fab, we booked a sea view, the view is fantastic! All the staff at the Bristol are fantastic, in the restaurant especially, they looked after us so well, I'm vegetarian and sometimes find it difficult to find nice food abroad but there was plenty on the menu and Matteo said they would make something up for me if there wasn't anything on the menu I didnt like, Pasquale is so lovely nothing was too much trouble and they both made us feel so special, it was such gorgeous food too it was top notch! The breakfast was fab too, theres something for everyone. It is a short walk into town which is not a bother for us, its nice to be slightly out the way of all the hussle and we got the fantastic views It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities and also there was a fridge in the room but they didn't like you using it for your own bought drinks it would have been nice if you could as hotel prices are very expensive! Sorrento is lovely and easy to get around to all the tourist attractions we travelled on the train quite a bit and boat to Capri which is beautiful Becareful not to get ripped off because some of them do try! We were leaving early evening and had to check out around 12 we thought it was a nice touch that there was a room available to have a shower and get changed if we needed before we left, nice one! We will definitely go back to the Bristol as they looked after us so well, all the staff there really do make your holiday extra special
Forgot to mention on the Herculaneum & Pompei tour admission was not included and was 20 euros each, which on top of the tour price, was unfair, as it bumped up the cost of the trip to nearly £140 for two. When I book a trip I expect all the admissions to be included in the price, my fault for not reading the small print.
My wife and I stayed in the Bristol Hotel in Sorrento. The hotel was ideally situated, a pleasent 10 min walk into the centre. We went on the Capri tour which was well organised and value for money. We also went on the Herculaneum and Pompei tour although I would recommend one or the other as it was a very long day. We fully intend to go back again and stay in the Bristol again, but for longer next time.
