We had a lovely stay but felt that its more like a 3 star than 4.The reception and bar are beautiful but the bedrooms were a bit disappointing. There was very little storage room and no where to put anything in the bathroom. The floors were very slippy, beds very hard and our room got full of car/bike fumes from nearby busy road, which was noisy 24 hours a day.The food was very good with plenty of choice and excellent fast service. We used the pool bar a lot for lunch, good menu ,excellent service by Santos everyday.Pool area was nice but very slippy and it needs some umbrellas for shade. It would have been nice if the pool bar was open in the evening or somewhere you could sit outside. The indoor bar was always empty. It is 7 years since we have been to Sorrento and were very shocked by how expensive it has become - 5 euros for a pint,3.50 euros for a coffee is really pushing the average budget. The taxis were a total rip off .It cost us between 12-15 euros for a 2 minute trip from Piazza Tasso to the hotel but because I have mobility problems we had no choice but pay.The excursions were very expensive and way beyond our budget -we took £1000 for the week and we were half board -we are not heavy drinkers and we could not believe how quickly our money went.We have visited Sorrento on 5 occasions but I fear we won't be going again for a long time as much as we love it.It will soon be the resort of the very well heeled !!!!The staff in the hotel were excellent and very efficient and they made every effort to make our stay pleasant. We were told that the sunbeds cost 5 euros a day per person, which is awful !! We were not charged for them,I guess it was because there was a lot of maintenance going on around the pool and the Jacuzzi was not working .They were doing some varnishing which was very smelly !!!
At our welcome meeting Ben our rep took us on a walking tour of Sorrento making sure that we did not miss any of the best bits. Sorrento old town very quaint streets lined with small shops. Hotel about 10 minutes walk from local train station, which we used to get around, very cheap transport. We went to Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum on the train. We also caught the ferry to the Isle of Capri, this was the hightlight of our holiday although everything was on the expensive side. we caught the local bus upto Anna Capri from there we took the chair lift to the top, the views were spectacular. We did the Thomson trip along the Amalfi coast stopping at various places along the way. We would recommend the Kontado restaurant near the train station they make excellent cappucino's.
