Not the best holiday, the weather did not help but all in all the hotel was pretty poor. To start of with the food was very poor and repetitive, unless you enjoy pizza for lunch and tea each day. The hotel room was average pretty simple, supposed to be a pool view if you look really closely for a while you can make it out. As soon as you leave the hotel people are pestering you for money and when you enter the medina and markets it can get quite scary. Each direction you look are half built buildings. Not alot to do if you plan on staying in or by the pool, no entertainment on a night time except the odd football match been shown on a small television were people sit straight infront of you. all in all very poor will not be paying tunisia a visit anytime soon.
Stayed at the Tour Khalef many years ago and enjoyed it then , so this year we returned and it was even better. The rooms were large and clean, food first class, and staff brill.Must mention Charlie our waiter treated us like is own family and the two bar persons who worked the afternoon/evening shift thank you for the fun we had and the drawings on my drinks mats.I would recommend this Hotel to anyone .See you all in October 2011.
You'll either love it/hate it! Overall I did not enjoy Tunisia as a whole, I found the people to be unfriendly, rude and the men just totally overbearing, I felt it had nothing to offer. After spending 2 weeks within Hotel Tour Khalef I am bound never to return for the following reasons:- The hotel foyer is very opulent though after that it goes downhill. The hotel dining room resembles a canteen, the food is very repetitive and I do not think it represents the food of Tunisa. Overall, I would say it was bland though plenty of it. The Xmas Eve Fayre was disappointing, there was no choice for those with fish allergies like my mother so it was take it or leave it? so she had to wait til the starter (fish based) and the fish course was served before anything arrived for her to eat. There was a long time inbetween courses which must have been very frustrating for families with small children. After this we decided to eat out on New Years Eve which I'm glad I did as I heard from other guests that there was no improvement and the same happened again long waits etc. Additionally, they operated a system that ensured you dined at the same table for your duration (u had some degree of choosing a table), however, when more guests arrived they started telling people that they could sit anywhere for breakfast which lead to confusion. The management in this hotel have to be told that only one system can be operated at any one time. The bedrooms are basic and would benefit from being upgraded to incorporate tea/coffee facilites, larger televisions with some English channels (apart from news) maybe not too important during summer months but it is very cold at night in winter and older people who do not like late nights would benefit from this. Softer pillows and more than 1 per bed would be good, the beds themselves could benefit from being replaced as they were so hard, a bed of nails would have been more comfortable. In winter it is not worth paying more for a room with a sea view as they do not benefit from the sun. The sun only rises on left hand side of the bulilding so its only bedrooms overlooking the terrace, which get the sun until 3pm so the balcony was well used. My biggest bug bear was the entertainments tent that management decided to erect on the terrace, this blasted out loud kiddies music, then awful adult entertainment until around 11pm each night, once again extremely repetitive and was a total health hazard due to cigarettes being smoked.
The hotel and staff were fantastic. It was all inclusive and we enjoyed the food and local beers and spirits. However, Sousse itself is quite dirty and the Medina was very scary with the vendors chasing you to buy something from their shops. It's a bit like Turkey in that respect. Overall it was a pleasant experience but I don't think we will be going again. Possibly in the Summer there are more tourists so it wouldn't be so intimidating.
Simply went to the "Tour Khalef" to "chill out" for a week! The hotel location, grounds and beach were excellent! The Staff were really excellent, the Bar Staff perfectly multi-lingual and provided superb service. The Food in the Restaurant was of good quality, but lacked variety .. the Waiter was exceptional, truly excellent service! Did not go on any Excursions, but people we met said that they were really very good!
