Book a flight to Menorca and get ready to slow the pace down – this sleepy Balearic is all about laid-back beaches and traditional villages.
While its Balearic neighbours are all about big resorts and frenzied nightlife, Menorca takes a different approach to holidays. The island is a favourite with families and couples, who come here for the relaxed vibe and quiet beaches. Days tend to revolve around the coast, where more than 100 stretches of sand jostle for attention. They come in all shapes and sizes, from white expanses with plenty of watersports to hidden-away coves backed by cliffs. Flights to Menorca put the island’s countryside within easy reach, too. Head inland and you’ll find time-worn towns, prehistoric temples and scenic walking trails that weave their way through the hills.
Menorca Top 5
TREAD the soft sands of Son Bou, on the south of the island. Menorca’s biggest beach, its white sands stretch for more than two miles
BROWSE the leather shops that line the streets in all the main towns and resorts. Good quality sandals, bags and belts can be snapped up for half the price you’d pay at home.
MUNCH your way around the food market in Ciudadela. Alongside all the fresh produce, you’ll find creamy cheeses and juicy sausages.
MOVE in time to the music at the Caves of Xoroi. This unusual nightclub is set in a series of underground tunnels, with the dancefloor is suspended over the sea.
LOOK out over the island’s beaches and countryside from the top of Monte Toro. Menorca’s highest peak, it offers up fantastic bird’s eye views. Plus it’s home to a little Renaissance church.
