Dramatic mountains, dune-backed beaches and fishing villages that slumber in the sunshine - that’s what you can expect when you book flights to Lefkas.
Flights to Lefkas are for those in search of Greece at its purest. The island is linked to the Greek mainland by a bridged causeway, yet it’s somehow escaped the modern development net. Its trump card has to be its scenery. The coast is a halo of pebbly strands and long belts of sand. Inland, meanwhile, mountains, orchards and woodlands provide the kind of landscape loved by hikers and bird-watchers. Most of the hotels have clustered on the east coast, with Nidri being the island’s liveliest resort. The west coast, meanwhile, is the place to head if you like your beauty served up a little more rugged. Wherever you choose, save some time for Lefkas Town - losing yourself in its maze-like cobbled streets is a must.
Lefkas Top 5
CHECK out Porto Katsiki. Its arc of white sand is sandwiched between bright blue waters and soaring cliffs - little wonder it’s often labelled Lefkas’ best beach.
STOCK up on souvenirs in Lefkas Town. Its pedestrianised main street, Ioannou Mela, is prime stomping ground for shoppers.
SATISFY your sugar cravings with some traditional sweets. Try chewy ‘mandolata’ nougat and ‘pasteli’, a combination of caramelised sesame seeds and honey.
LIVEN things up with a night out in Nidri. The main street is a mass of drinking dens, karaoke joints and clubs that do a mean line in garage and house music.
SET sail for the wooded islets just offshore. Sparti, Mandouri and Skorpios all have postcard good looks, but it’s Skorpios that gets the most attention – it belongs to the Onassis family.
