From the Karnak Temple to the Valley of the Kings, flights to Luxor lay Egypt’s history at your feet.
Egypt’s nerve-centre since the Pharaohs, the River Nile certainly packs in plenty of things to do – and flights to Luxor put you right in the centre of the action. On the sightseeing front, you’ve got big names like the Luxor and Karnak Temples and the Valley of the Kings close by. And the city offers up plenty of bazaars choc-full of souvenirs, too - so you can haggle away to your heart’s content. If a trip to the capital is on the cards, meanwhile, you’re in luck. Flights to Luxor put you within easy reach of Cairo – the internal flight takes less than an hour. Luxor aside, you can also book flights to Aswan, your gateway to Egypt’s southernmost city. This place overlooks the Nile on one side and miles of amber desert on the other, so you’re all set for soul-stirring scenery.
Nile Top 5
SAIL away on a felucca. These traditional wooden boats glide up and down the Nile, taking in the sights along the way.
HEAD back in time at the Temple of Karnak. This vast complex was built up and added to by a long line of pharaohs, making it the biggest ancient religious site in the world.
SAMPLE Egypt’s national dish, ‘fool’, a chunky stew made with broad beans, garlic, tomatoes and paprika.
STEP into Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Wander through the maze of rocky corridors and chambers and you’ll find a grand total of 62 tombs carved into the Theban hills.
PAY a visit to Kalabsha Temple, close to Aswan’s city centre. To save it from flooding, this place was moved piece-by-piece to its current spot back in 1970.
