Footprints in the sand and the rustle of palms might do it for some. But, for others, big day backdrops are defined by snow-covered woodland and fairy lights that twinkle in the twilight. This is where Lapland comes in. Most people associate this tucked-away region with Father Christmas and his little helpers, but those in the know understand it’s also starry-eyed territory as far as winter weddings go.
Traditional
Say your vows in a log cabin while snowflakes salcho outside. Then sit down to an authentic Lappish dinner as you look at each other through candle light. Or make your promises in the warmth of a village chapel, where countless Lappish couples have wed before you. And, as far as post-wedding activities go, days can be spent sipping hot berry juice in front of crackling log fires, or getting lost together in the woods.
With a twist
There’s nothing run-of-the-mill about any Lapland wedding. But some are a touch quirkier than others. You can have your winter wedding in a chapel made entirely from ice or say your vows by the side of a roaring fire inside a Lappish tepee.
