If you’ve ever imagined what it looks like when you smudge footprints in the sand with your wedding train, or thought how it might feel to have your veil carried by the sea breeze, you’re a contender for a beach wedding. Beach weddings can be as low-key as you like. Don’t bother with the bridal shoes and have a barefoot wedding with only the waves as witnesses. Or have a wide aisle constructed and say your vows in front of a plane’s worth of friends and family.
Go the distance
If you want to go the extra mile for your beach wedding, consider a ceremony in Mexico, Mauritius, Aruba, Jamaica, Kenya, Florida, Thailand or the Dominican Republic. In these countries the beaches are guaranteed to be whiter than your wedding dress. What’s more, these places know how to host a honeymoon. When your wedding party has departed, you’ll have seaside walks, sunset cocktails and tropical tables for 2 to look forward to.
Closer to home
You’d go to the ends of the earth to make your other half happy, but that doesn’t mean you have to. A 2 to 4 hour flight will take you to the Mediterranean which, if you read between the lines, means button holes filled with orchids and crocuses, and wedding breakfasts of mezze and local firewater. Some of the weddings here can’t take place on the actual beach, because they’re not privately owned. However, you can still wed under a flower-braided gazebo, just a few feet from the shore.
