Escape the blues at Thomson, Birmingham New Street
Everyday next week, Thomson’s New Street shop in Birmingham’s city centre will be oozing holiday atmosphere even more than usual with dancers from the first ever International Dance Festival performing in the window.
Each day from 12 noon until 1pm and from 4.30pm until 5.30pm from Monday 28th April to Sunday 4th May, passers-by will be able to watch and interact with dancers performing holiday mimes and routines, such as sunbathing in the warm Mediterranean sun.
Thomson’s involvement is part of a special series of dance pieces called On Display by Italian choreographer Luca Silvestrini that will take place away from the more traditional theatre venues that will host other Festival performances, such as the Birmingham Hippodrome. Throughout the city centre dancers will delight shoppers with performances literally bringing the shops and streets to life.
International Dance Festival Birmingham will bring a month-long extravaganza of dance to Birmingham from 28th April to 25th May. The festival will showcase the works of internationally renowned dance companies and choreographers, alongside national and locally-produced works. Bollywood, flamenco, Cuban and ballet are just a handful of the dance styles being performed.
