The UK’s leading travel company today predicted popular future destinations for British travellers. Borneo, Bali, Hawaii and Mauritius are new destinations that the travel company predicts will be on its route map when it takes delivery of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2010.

Thomson announced the news as the first 787 Dreamliner was preparing to roll off the production line in Seattle. The Dreamliner is lighter so can cover a greater distance than a traditional aircraft would on the same amount of fuel – making it possible to fly greater distances than it has been possible to achieve in the past. The range the 787 Dreamliner can achieve will change the face of long-haul travel in future enabling Thomson to offer holidays in far reaching destinations without the need to touch down and re-fuel.

Thomson currently operates long haul flights on its Thomsonfly fleet of aircraft – which have 33” inch seat pitch in economy class and 37” in the premium cabin. Passengers enjoy meals from chef Aldo Zilli and are entertained by seat back touch screens. Thomsonfly will working with its customers to develop its new Dreamliner inflight experience.

Commercial Director of Thomsonfly, Guy Stephenson, said, “This new airplane will open up a world of destinations that can be accessed by a single flight from the UK. Congratulations and thanks to Boeing for creating this new aircraft which has significant benefits for the travelling public, destinations worldwide and the environment.”

The 787 is at the cutting edge of commercial aircraft technology.  It is constructed from carbon composite making it lighter and generating a 60% smaller noise footprint and being 20% more fuel efficient.

In May this year TUI AG announced that it has 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order. Thomsonfly and the TUI fleet are scheduled to take delivery of the 787 airplanes between 2010 and 2013.The aircraft is designed to make flying more pleasurable for passengers with cleaner cabin air, larger windows and improved lighting.
