In 1923, a group of archeologists stumble across an ancient tomb at the mysterious Hamunaptra. When the mummy within the tomb is disturbed and accidently brought back to life, all chaos ensues as the 'dead' mummy, Imhotep, regains his strength and seeks to bring his dead lover (Pharoah Seti's mistress) back to life, and persue his tyrannical dictatorship over the world.
Marrakech in Morocco provides the casbahs and bazaars of 1925 Cairo. The ruins of the lost city of Hamunaptra, the legendary City of the Dead, was built in the Sahara desert outside the small town of Erfoud.
When Governer's daughter Elizabeth Swann is kidnapped by the Pirate Captain Barbossa, Elizabeth's childhood friend Will Turner teams up with an unlikely ally, the rogue pirate Jack Sparrow, to save her and rescue the lost treasure that Jack seeks. Little do they know that Elizabeth's captors are cursed. Existing between the living and the dead, the pirates plan to use their victim to help bring them back to life - unless Will and the eccentric Jack can get there first.
Much of the filming for Pirates of the Caribbean was completed in Samana, in the Dominican Republic. The Sequel, Dead Man's Chest, was filmed in Dominica in the Commonwealth of Dominica, in Hampstead, Portsmouth, Vieille Case and Soufriere.
