1. Calm waters

2. Sandy retreat
There’s almost 1,000 acres of sand dunes to explore at Maspalomas beach. They’re great for lying back and enjoying the sun. There’s plenty of room to spread out too. And if you want to see it all, you can even hop on a camel ride to take you across the sands.
3. Waves
For a small island, Gran Canaria packs a punch when it comes to watersports. You’ll be able to try your hand at jet-skiing, windsurfing and parasailing. There are also plenty of excursions on offer with catamarans, glass-bottomed boats and booze cruises ready to take you out to sea.
4. Scenic hiking routes
Gran Canaria’s countryside offers some stunning scenery for a day’s hiking. If you fancy a challenge, there’s Pico de las Nieves, the island’s highest mountain at 1,949 metres. Or for something a little easier, you could take the trails through Tamadaba National Park’s pine forests.
5. Tee-off time
Eight golf courses is an impressive feat for an island this size. They’re all designed by pro golfers and provide a test for players of all levels. The par-73 Campo de Golf next to the sand dunes of Maspalomas is one of the best the island has to offer.
