“Three restaurants, a huge pool, and a private beach are just some of the standout features of this impressive All Inclusive.”
You know you’re in a big resort when there’s a shuttle bus between buildings. And that’s exactly what you get here. The hotel is a series of three-storey buildings terraced down a hillside. With their ochre-coloured roofs and lemon paintwork, they’re easy on the eye. And there’s even a viewing tower from which you can take in the jungle views.

The star attraction here, though, has to be the lagoon pool. A bouquet of palms is set in the middle of the water, and there’s a large swim-up bar for in-water cocktails. Plus there’s a separate area for children. You’ll also find plenty in the way of loungers and palm-thatched parasols.

Pool aside, there’s a private beach club just ten minutes away by boat. The stretch of sand here offers more than just a place to tan. The list is impressive, with football, volleyball, kayaking and snorkelling among the activities. Closer to home, there’s the black sandy stretch that is Manzanillo Beach, just at the bottom of the hill.

On the food front, the hotel’s got three restaurants, so there’s plenty of choice. Los Corales is the main food hub, where you can look forward to big buffets throughout the day. Seafood lovers shouldn’t miss the lobster and jumbo shrimp here. Or you can take your pick from two à la carte restaurants, plus a snack bar and beach bar.

Lastly, you’ve got the bedrooms. They’ve got a Spanish influence, so expect terracotta floors and sunshine yellow soft furnishings. In-room extras include air-conditioning, satellite TVs and coffee-makers. Plus they’ve all got balconies, too.

Your guide to Gulf Of Papagayo, Costa Rica

“Set on the northern Pacific coast, this vast bay offers up secluded beaches and a taste of untouched Costa Rica.”

If you’re looking for somewhere exotic, the Gulf of Papagayo won’t disappoint. Carved into the north Pacific shores of Costa Rica, this huge bay has the faraway jungly look down to a T. It really lives up to everyone’s idea of Costa Rica - all bright green hills and dense woodlands. And it’s pretty remote and quiet, too. With no big towns in the area, the only activity here comes from a handful of fishing villages and hotels. The beaches, meanwhile, provide the finishing touches to the adventure-book feel of the place. There are 12 in all, spread along the bay in between rocky headlands. And they range from gorgeous white sand stretches to pockets of black, volcanic sand. Just take your pick - you can walk for miles along the shore or catch a boat trip. The waters are great for swimming and snorkelling, too - sheltered by the bay, they’re shallow and calm. If you fancy upping the pace a bit, your best bet is Playa de Coco in the south. As well as a beautiful beach, this bustling village has restaurants, bars and dinky souvenir shops. Last but not least, there’s loads here for wildlife-lovers and thrill-seekers. Take a nature trail to spy on howler monkeys, parrots and iguanas. Or venture further afield into Costa Rica’s national parks for white-water rafting, zip-lining or sky-walking. The jewel in the crown is Arenal National Park. Crowned by the huge Arenal Volcano, this natural wonderland offers up everything from hot mineral springs to rainforests offering amazing hiking and birdwatching.
