The brand-new Hotel Riu Sri Lanka boasts an excellent beachfront location, modern rooms and a fantastic dining scene.
Right on the beachfront, this brand-new hotel is one of the biggest in Sri Lanka. And it certainly makes the most of its size, with three pools, five restaurants and more than 500 rooms to its name.
The hotel has been cleverly built in a U-shape, which means the fantastic sea views are always on show. From the higher floors, you’ll get great vistas of the surrounding greenery, too. Inside, rooms are stylish and modern.

ONE OF THE BEST !
I had a very pleasant stay at RIU last weekend. Hotel has a very safe and ample parking space to start with. The service was great from the get-go. Quick check-in and rooms are very clean, nice and modern. Large washroom and very comfortable bedding. Food is very nice and with a good spread. We were on an all inclusive full board basis where drinks and snacks are unlimited. Hotel has a nice night club, Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended !More

F & B staff were very friendly
A large property with 4 pools and the kids enjoyed the kids pool and the kids club so much. Need some shades as still the trees are growing up. F & B staff were very friendly. Specially Mr Jude Marchelle and his staff. Thank you so much for the service. It was a lovely stay.More
We have just come home from 10 nights here and it was great!! From the moment we landed until we were back at the airport! We booked a transfer through the hotel so when we arrived there was a man holding our name on a sign inside the airport so there was no confusion where to go. Great start!! The transfer took just less than two hours, some of it expressway and some roads through bustling towns. I had never been to Sri Lanka before so it was great to see it all. There were cows and goats just walking along the road, school children going to school, people going to work and all this before 6.30am! CHECK-IN - We arrived at the hotel to check in, it was 8am and check in wasn't until much later. Maybe 3pm? So we thought we would have to leave our cases in the baggage room and return later, to our surprise we had been given an ocean view upgraded room and were told the room wasn't quite ready but wouldn't be long so we went for breakfast and came back and we were able to go straight up. ROOM - Our room was spacious with a king bed and a sofa bed, we had our little girl with us so we asked if the sofa bed could be made up and it was done almost instantly. Our bags were brought to the room for us, we asked also if we had some more hangers and towels as the room seemed mainly for two people not three and again everything was there in minutes. The view from the balcony was amazing, looking right out across the ocean and the sound of the crashing waves. The waves were quite loud but as soon as closed the doors the noise was gone. POOLS - We went down to the pool where my four year old was desperate to go!! There is a choice of three and then a kids pool. We stayed mostly at the swim up pool bar, as it was close if we wanted to go to the bar. By the end of the holiday my daughter was swimming up to the bar and asking for a slush herself and bringing it back. There are two other pools aside from the swim up bar pool, one has a net up to play water volleyball and this is where the aquafit, water basketball etc happens. Then there is another long infinity pool and then the kids pool. The kids pool is down some steps right in front of the kids club, it has water slides and different things there and is only about two foot deep so it's ideal if the kids don't want to wear their armbands or rubber ring. The time of year that we went wasn't too busy so there were literally loads of empty sun beds to choose from at which ever pool you wanted to sit at. There was no having to get up at silly o clock to put towels down there was always plenty. You get towel cards when you check in so we just returned the towels each day and got new ones each morning. There is. Also a beach at the hotel you can walk along but you can't go in the sea as it is so rough. The beach is lovely to walk along but can be quite littered from the locals. KIDS CLUB - My 4 year old can be quite shy, she wanted to go straight away but wanted me to go too at first, almost immediately though she said she was fine and I was to go. Anything the kids wanted to do they could from colouring in, play doh, building bricks, games, there is also a park beside the pool and if the kids wanted to play in the pool they could do this too. The first time one of the girls came to ask if it was ok my daughter went in to the pool then after that they knew it was ok. By the end of the holiday when I was going to get my daughter at lunch time for us all to go and grab some lunch she would have already had it in the kids club. The girls are FAB and my little girl really loved them!! She was gutted on the last day that she didn't get to say goodbye as they were away home on their lunch when the transfer came to pick us up. The only problem I had with kids club was keeping my daughter away!! She loves to go, so most days I would let her go for a couple of hours but not all day as I wanted her to be with us at the pool too!! The club is open from 10.45-1.00 and then 2.45 to 5.00. FOOD - I read some reviews before we went on holiday that the food could be hit or miss which is kind of what I expect now from All Inc hotels, but I don't know which hotel those people were staying at as the food here is fantastic!! Breakfast has a great selection from cooked breakfast items to every type of egg, pancakes, waffles etc, salad items, local breakfast foods, cereal, pastries and muffins ...the list goes on. So if you cannot find something to eat then there's something wrong. Lunch again has a great selection of foods, once we settled in to a routine I had some mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar or a chicken Cesar salad most days. But again there are soup, breads toasties, pizza, pastas, meat, veg, local foods. There is a great selection and if there is anything you don't see there is no harm in asking if you can get it. There was no basil but I thought one day I will ask and see if they have any. Every day after that the shed was asking me if I wanted it rather than me asking if I could get it. Dinner in the main restaurant again was lovely. There was a carvery station where the chef cut the meat for you, with mashed potatoes, gravy and veg, again pizza and pastas, local dishes (some mild and some hot), fish, chicken, pork, beef, vegetarian the list goes on and on and everything was lovely. Because the hotel wasn't full, each day we looked to see where dinner was going to be. In the high season all of the restaurants are open. It while we were there it was just one of two. The first night we arrived we were told at lunch time the steak house would be open that night and we should book in. We did and it was amazing!! We didn't have too high hopes as it was an all inc hotel restaurant but what we had we would have paid a lot of money for back home! The steaks really were amazing!! So good in fact I went straight to reception to see when it was open again to book for another night! We also went to the Italian three nights before the end of the holiday and again amazing!! It was a choice of buffer for the starter and main courses and you chose from the menu for the main course. I had the chicken, my husband the pork and daughter the lasagne. It was all delicious!! The food from start to finish really was wonderful. The only other restaurant we tried was the Asian one as that's where dinner was one night instead of the main restaurant and again lovely. There was noodles, rice, sushi, dim sum, satay, teriyaki, plenty to choose from again and everything was great! The waiting staff are great, they are so attentive. From the second you sit down they are there asking what you would like to drink and after one or two days they remember and ask if that's what you would like. ANIMATION TEAM The animation team are there all day and most nights. They do various sports and activities through the day from bowls to bingo, water basketball to football and volleyball to chess. There is something for everybody. At 5pm the girls from kids club come round inviting all the kids to go up on to stage with them to do some dances and dance with Calu the Riu turtle. My little girl loved it!! At night times there was a band most nights that would start at 8.30-9.15 then there would be a show, some nights it was the hotels animation team and some nights it was outside entertainers then the band would play again from 10-11 when the entertainment finished. Some nights it was traditional themed dances and one night it was Grease the musical. We used to watch them all rehearsing through the day for that night. TOURS - There are many places you can visit while here and there are many people to tell you about them down on the beach. The first day we were a bit overwhelmed with people trying to sell us tours and things in the beach sometimes while Your sitting in the pool minding your own business. But if you say no thank you then they leave you be. I said this and when I had decided that I did want to buy something I simply went down and spoke to someone. We went to see the turtles, a spice garden and a Buddhist temple and some elephants. I would have loved to go to kandy to the orphanage but I don't think my little one would have appreciated the 4am weakening to go. But there are lots of things to choose from and you'll be taken in a tuk tuk or a car depending on how far away your going. Even if your not going on a tour you should experience the tuk tuk they are a fun way to get about. Overall we had a fantastic holiday here from start to finish! The staff are fantastic and all very hardworking. We came in the off season which meant it wasn't busy so the staff had time to talk to us and the pool wasn't crowded, the restaurants weren't over crowded with people pushing and shoving. In the 10 days we were there only the last 3 or 4 days were constant sunshine. We had dark clouds and a few spots of rain to complete thunder storms where the rain literally bounced off the ground but if the weather not being just as good as in high season meant that we got the service we did then I would choose that again every time!! The day we left coach loads of people arrived it went from a peaceful paradise to a crazy place so we definitely chose the right 10 days to go!!it was fantastic!!More
