We stayed at this hotel from 1st until the 15th of may for my Birthday & our 1st wedding Anniversary , when we arrived we were taken to room 812 I think which was to far away from as I have a hip problem so we went to reception and explain they were very helpful and we stayed in room 207 much closer. I cannot fault this hotel in any way the staff are amazing anything you need you just have to ask nothing was to much trouble . We done a boat trip with Chris in the beach which is a must brilliant day out all though we had a very wet day it was still fun plenty of vanilla rum and a lovely lobster lunch. I have read a couple of negative reviews on here and I think Really were they staying at the same hotel as me I can honestly say it gets 5 star from me could not fault it hope to return sometime in the near future .well done all keep up the good work . We just got back from our honeymoon and had the best time. The service at the resort was 5star. We arrived late the night and missed supper. They arranged a cold platter for our room after they upgraded us to a sea view deluxe room from our deluxe garden view room. Its just over an hour from the airport and has beautiful beaches with fun activities. The only bad thing for us was on the first night we arrived we went to the bar for some drinks, we don't drink alcohol so we ordered coffee. The one waiter was very rude (Wendy) and we did not feel very special. After we order at the bar the one waiter said that we can have a seat and he will serve us. Wendy came afterwards and in a rude manner said that we have to wait at the bar and that they will not bring the coffee. A couple af days after that se argued with the bar man and made all the customers very uncomfortable. But nevertheless the other staff made up for all that. They were so friendly and helpful. The best barman/waiter by far is Seham. He always smiled and to take our drink order was never a problem no matter how busy he was. We also enjoyed the beach restaurant that Amar was so helpful at and made sure that that the restaurant is running smoothly. He made us feel like kings. The guy that helped us on arrival at customer relations was also very professional and helpful Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Muaritius More
' Our Perfect Wedding Destination '
We arrived at the Ambre on 24/4/17 for 2 weeks flying from Gatwick onboard the Thomson Dreamliner . on arrival at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by several members of smiling staff with a iced drink and cool flanel. Also there to greet us was our Wedding coordinator Ankush Sungkur who immediately with his professional but extremely friendly personality put us both at ease intantly and we knew that Ankush was the man to make our wedding in paradise become a reality. After an initial mix up with our room which was sorted very quickly and efficiently by the lovely Thomson rep Armelle we were shown to our room 185 which was the spa end of the hotel with beautiful views of the beach and indian ocean . Our room which was on the upper floor was spacious, clean , had a large walk in shower, large balcony with table and chairs, very good air conditioning and lovely comfortable extra large bed . Our room was kept spotlessly clean by a very pleasant young man called Maunick who always enquired if everything was ok with the room and how we were enjoying our stay. Food - We mainly ate at the Indigo which is the hotels buffet style serve yourself restaurant . We found the food here very good with lots of choice every day . My only gripe which is a very minor one is that being a salad lover i found that there never seemed to be any tomatoes on the salad section but im sure if i had of asked they would have provided some for me . The fish curries were especially nice as was the grilled Sail fish . In previous reviews ive read about this hotel people have complained about the food being repetative but we did not find this to be the case and if you couldnt find a lovely tasty meal out of the choice available then you must be an extremely fussy eater and should probably holiday in the UK . This is Mauritius afterall ! We also ate at the hotels a la carte restaurants which were both equally as good if you fancied being served for a change . As in previous reviews where people said they had to queue to book we found no problem in reserving tables at both the Italian and Beach restaurants. Our Wedding night meal at the La Plage was a beautiful meal and the staff made us feel very special. The Pool and Beach - Lovely well designed clean pool with plenty of loungers and shade . The beach although cleaned daily had a little bit of coral and seaweed washed up everyday so some people may need beach shoes if you've got delicate feet . We did'nt find it a problem . The pool and beach are both served by the staff at the Coral beach bar who work tirelessly everyday making sure everyone has a drink and they all soon get to know your favourite tipples. Swadesh ( he made us laugh with his funny manerisms ) looked after us every day and was so lovely and sweet. Also Siham and Antaf who looked after us in the evenings serving cocktails endlessly were a joy to know. All three are a credit to this hotel along with all the other bar staff and house keeping staff we got to know . If your on the beach you will no doubt come across Chris who sells the 5 island boat trip . Brilliant day out for around £60 each . Speed boat with never more than 8 people on board visiting several islands, feeding the monkeys, dinner on the beach and plenty of Mauritian Coffee(rum) flowing freely resultling in a rather tipsy me retiring to bed early that evening . If theres one trip to do here it has to be this one you wont be disappointed. Dogs and Cats - As an animal lover i was a little concerned over other reviews id read about the dogs and cats at the hotel . However , whilst we were there we saw only 3/4 dogs who looked healthy, they didnt bother you unless you called them , they didnt beg for food , if you did give them food they took it nicely and carried it away . Obviously the hotel dont encourage the dogs as not all people like them which is fine so if you do feel the need to feed them as a matter of respect to the hotel and restaurant staff i would advise you to take food bags with you and feed the dogs and cats ( we saw only 2 adult cats and 4 kittens whilst there) well away from the restaurants . Our Wedding - At our meeting with Ankush when we arrived he explained we would be picked up by taxi the following day at 8 am to be taken to Port Louis to do the official paperwork . We were met by a lady who showed us to the correct office and when we were done she showed us back to our taxi which was waiting for us outside . Whole process took about 15 mins and we were soon back on our way down to Flacq where we had to visit the local registry office to sign a few more papers . 20 minutes later we were back at the hotel . We were very impressed at the very efficient organisation of this' must do ' trip in order to get married in Mauritius. That afternoon we met again with Ankush to go through the details of the wedding 2 days later . We chose to get married in the gardens at the gym side of the hotel as we found it a bit more private than the beach at the spa end of the hotel as we had watched a couple of weddings there when we first arrived and found that people tended to wander about in the sea during the ceremony which we didnt want on our pictures . Regardless of this the beach is a beautiful setting for a wedding just not for us . On the wedding day itself we got married at 4.15pm ( the hotel only does one wedding per day ). Everything went perfect and all i can say is we could'nt have wished for a more perfect wedding . Ankush is so professional and has great attention to detail . He thinks of everything and carries out any personal wishes you have for the day to the letter . Ankush you are a star and you made our day so very special . THANK YOU XX After the wedding we went to the pool area to take a few photos with our photograper and hotel guests around the pool and bar area cheered and clapped us which we found very touching . Also after our wedding meal we went into the Coral bar still wearing our wedding outfits and both hotel guests from all over the world and staff in there were so kind with their good wishes and congratulations . As we had travelled alone and had no guests with us to celebrate our wedding (our choice, we like to keep things simple) we were overwhelmed and very touched by this. In fact it made our day extra special. We returned to our room later that night to find our bed decorated with rose petals and towel swans forming a love heart. Breakfast was served in our room the following morning . We feasted on a full cooked brekkie with lots of fresh exotic fruit to follow . Another special touch by the hotel which we found so lovely. Although the weather during the second half of our holiday was a little wet, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our wedding at The Ambre . The staff are so genuinely lovely and do everything they can to make your holiday enjoyable . Having read some very mixed reviews before we arrived i was a little nervous about our choice but im pleased to say i should not have worried. Yes there are some dogs on the beach , if you dont want their attention just ignore them they wont bother you , Yes there is a little bit of peeling paint around the hotel , this is Mauritius , its a tropical island with high humidity . It certainly does not affect the beauty and charm of the place . If you want glossy glitzy polished hotels go to Dubai or some other man made resort. Overall The Ambre is a beautiful hotel with very good management and staff . We would definitely recommend it to anyone . You wont be disappointed . Thank you to all at the Ambre for making our holiday and wedding just simply 'Perfect' and we would certainly like to visit again ( Hint Hint Mr Barrett !!! 1st wedding Anniversary maybe ??? )More
A very good and beautiful hotel. A design-like hotel, with rooms beautifully decorated, with a great atmosphere. The beach restaurant is the best! The only "bad" thing is that we have to book the restaurants each day in the morning. Amazing beach and surroundings. Totally recommend! More
