We spent 2 weeks at Ambre at the end of June last year& we loved it .After such a long journey to get there it was nice to be met with a cold drink & a damp cloth followed by a easy & quick check in process. Not long after that we were shown to our room. We were really pleased with our room, it was big, clean & had everything we could need plus a lovely view of the beach & sea. The rooms come with a fully stocked (with water, beer, coke, sprite & some chocolate) fridge, on our second day my partner asked one of the cleaners if it would be possible to have diet coke in the fridge due to me being a type 1 diabetic & without fail for the rest of the holiday we always had 2 diet cokes rather normal coke. After readying some previous reviews we were a little unsure if we'd even bother to book the other restaurants as it sounded like a bit of a pain, but I decided to give it a go one morning & I seriously do not know what all the moaning was about. It was so easy to go upstairs to the loft area at 9am & request a table in which ever of the other 2 restaurants you wanted for that evening. I highly recommend trying both the Italian & the beach front ones during your stay, both are great. The buffet restaurant is also great, variety of food is good & everything tasted so good! The staff in there are great too, friendly & helpful. The main bar by the pool was fab, we always found it easy to get a seat & it ever took long for someone to come over & take our order. Twice we sat up behind the bar too & that is fun yet dangerous, as soon as one of the guys see your drink is getting low they put a new cocktail in front of me, always something different too. I was a very happy bunny lol. I can't forget to say a huge thanks to all the staff who helped my partner arrange a private romantic dinner for us on the night of my birthday so he could get down on one knee to pop the question. It was incredible & so romantic. I can't believe various members of staff knew & were helping him plan it days in advance! Very well done. There is plenty to do around the resort too, pool table & football table, air hockey, on site shop, an arcade type game, games on the beach, volly ball area & a selection of glass bottom boat trips, snorkling trips & pedalo's or paddle boards you can take out. Never a chance to have nothing to do. A few times we took a walk into the town too, there isn't much about but it's a nice walk. If you get asked about a 5 island trip on the beach I 100% say do it!! It is absolutely incredible! Plenty of run, a great lunch & so much to see. If you do go out & about for a day you can also ask the hotel for a pack lunch to take with you & it is so lovely. Over all this resort is great & I would recommend it to anyone who's looking. We're thinking about going back in a few years.More
Where's the Tomatoes?
Myself and my wife spent a relaxing 2 weeks here. We arrived off the Gatwick flight on a Monday and arrived at the hotel about 10am. Just to pre warn you. Your rooms will not be ready until about 2/3pm. So you can get to the bar and have a few drinks. Again a quick warning, the sun is strong. We've stayed all over the world and I believe the humidity plays a big part. I've never burned anywhere else. I peeled 3 times in 2 weeks and I used factor 50 and I don't 'sun worship' and never sat in the shade. Take swim wear or shorts in hand luggage. Rooms are big and spacious, leave the AC on and Before you get in the shower, run it for a while to get it warm. A big shout out to our room guy AMIT.(400 block) What a star, this guy should be promoted, he must be the best OCD Cleaner I've ever experienced. He was brilliant and very polite. Nothing was ever any trouble. The fridge is filled with water, beer, sprite, coke no spirits. There is tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but use the bottled water. There are 2 bars, the coral which is closest to the beach and H&H which is by reception. All are staffed brilliantly, the coral has some acts in the evenings, but don't build your hopes up, you're on holiday, go with the flow. The coral closes at midnight, but you can go to H&H at midnight and dance the night away. You will have to pay for your drinks though. There are 3 restaurants, indigo which is the main buffet restaurant. The Italian dolce vita and the beach restaurant la planche. The last 2 are a la carte in the evenings which you have to book in reception the morning of the day you want to eat at 9am, be warned the queues are long and will take a while. In he main buffet, the food is plentiful and the choice will suit every one. My only gripe throughout the holiday was 'where are the tomatoes with the salads?' and where is the vegetables? They had the normal salad products, lettuce, cucumber etc, no tomatoes, but they did have raw cabbage (weird) and the veg I did see was either spoiled in a strange gratin sauce or a tomato sauce. The curried dishes, which mainly were vegetarian were lovely. If you are going to book any trips, do it with Chris on the beach. He's the guy with the baseball cap with the sun shade on the sides and back and shades. Go on the 5 island tour, it's quarter of the price instead of Thomson or firstchoice. Also a big shout to Chris's mate Jackey Jugoo. What a guy, he drove us around the north and south of the island privately, showed us things you wouldn't see booking it through the rep and again 'cheap as chips' Now, just to make people aware of the mentioned posts about wild dogs. There are none. There were four wandering around when we first arrived, but a lady toke 2 home, so there are still two there. They're not any trouble, they may approach you, all they want is a sit down next to you out of the heat and a pat. If you maybe can get a sausage out of the buffet for them, happy days. Also there are some little cats that live in the flowers outside indigo restaurant. Again a bit of ham goes a long way. Please don't forget the cute kittens outside the fitness centre opposite block 400, they live under the bush. They like ham and sausages also. The milk from the fridge is also a favourite. In all a lovely place to relax and all the staff are fantastic.More
10 year wedding anniversary disapointment
Looking at the reviews - i am enjoying reading the quote of the hotel from the manager Romeo " At Ambre, we follow our vision which simply says - "We make each moment matter". The team truly believes in making every moment special for our guests" this was certainly not the case for us. Whilst mauritius is a beautiful place with some great areas, we found it somewhat disapointing and would rate the hotel a 3 star at best. We were celebrating a 10 year wedding anniversary and a 40th birthday. We emailed the hotel numerous times , my husband asked for flowers for me on arrival and we received nothing ( happy to pay for this ) after challenging this the hotel admitted receiving the emails ( our rep spoke to the hotel on our behalf ) and they simply ignored them. We asked our rep about this and she advised 80% of our guests here celebrate something here and our anniversay and birthday was dismissed , not sure why we needed to fillout the forms on the bus asking if we were celebrating anything special. We booked a superior double room, for the first 3 nights we stayed in the lowest standard of room, after travelling for over 14 hours, the last thing we needed was this. The rep was not the best and informed us many times that this was the room we booked. I showed her my documents and the rooms that were advertised and she then agreed that we were not in the correct room. This was the Friday, we then moved on the Monday, this was not the correct rooms either, however by this time we were too upset to argue, not once did the hotel try and ask us how we were, the rep asked to speak to us, but only as she wanted to close down here complaint. The first 3 days of our holiday were ruined and I wanted to go home and this caused a lot of tension in our group. We were offered compensation in terms of a fruit platter, prosecco and a massage. We declined. Our friend who has trouble walking emailed the hoteal asking for a room near to the amenities and he was given a room the furthest away which was madness. We were told from the rep we should have paid for a upgraded room to guarentee this ! There are a lot of easy fixes that can be made at this hotel, and by the end of the holiday we were treated so much better than we were at the start of the holiday which was a little strange. I would take your own cooler water bottle as trying to get a bottle of water at the Ambre hotel is a nightmare, when you are a group of 4, one bottle of water is not enough. The dogs at the Ambre were not a big deal for me as I love dogs, however what was sad was how scared the dogs were of all of the staff and trying to bite them, the only explanation of this is that they have hurt them as none of the staff wanted them there and the hotel did not really know what to do about the problem. The booking for the restuarants is ridiculous, standing with no air con for over 30 minutes to get booked in is crazy and there i have never heard of a hotel doing this before ( and yes we have all been on holiday before ) ! I could go on ... but read the other reviews There are a lot of positives about this hotel also, including Pascal and the other entertainers who were fantastic, and the lifeguard, always had time and made a real positive difference to the hotel. If you are looking for the extras that you would expect to get in a fantastic location then this is not the place to go unfortunately. We would not return as for the amount of money that we spent it was not worth it and we can only remember the negatives.More
We returned from the resort last week and Like you I had read many reviews prior to my visit but this is a truthful account of my stay. We had a lovely welcome to the hotel by the staff who were awaiting our arrival offering fresh towels and cool drinks and we were speedily checked in and escorted to our rooms. Following the 12 hour journey this was most welcome our luggage followed around 30 minutes later. We booked a superior room which must mean standard and was a lot smaller than was expected. The description was garden view but ours was a brick wall view. Okay negatives over the hotel is beautiful pool great and the see is stunning. Food was okay not to my liking but that's no fault of the hotel I didn't travel to Mauritius for chips and burgers but would have been nice to have had a chip/fries option at least once during our 2 week stay. The hotels real main asset is its lovely friendly smiling staff that really wanted you to enjoy your stay. The general manager was the first person to welcome you and was the last one we saw wishing us a safe journey home (nice touch).More

First time in Mauritius. Arrived to clean and new airport. Not overly large but adequate. 1 hour transfer to hotel by coast road or motorway. Good opportunity to see Island. Welcome towel wipe and drink (watermelon slush puppy). Promptly shown to room but beware if early arrival as room check out is midday so noticed some guests had to wait for their room. Rooms on ground or first floor level generally and most face sea with a few to the luscious well laid out gardens. Note no lifts so if you cannot manage stairs ask for ground floor and close to reception / pool. All rooms have free mini bar and cleaned once daily. All rooms have digital secure safe and plenty storage. Recommend keep air con on to stop bugs Pool has limited loungers and all taken early but plenty on beach and grass terrace areas. Towels available for beach / pool so no need to take own. Some guests had pegs but can easily tie onto lounger Sea warm and clear. Men clear seaweed washed up early each morning. Reef out a fair distance so will need boat to snorkle for best views Hotel provide some free sail boats, pedalo and canoes plus glass bottom boat.Life vests noted. We never used We did not do trips but lots of guests recommend book through Chris on beach rather than tour companies due to price. Can easily book own taxi using desk in hotel Food is varied and offered without booking through main restaurant. Free al a carte can be booked for evening at beach and Italian - no booking required if use at lunchtime Branded drinks in all inclusive - free until midnight Entertainment not to our taste but some guests seemed to enjoy Entertainment staff not intrusive away from pool area Spa offers all usual spa treatments and staff delightful under management of Brinda All staff are helpful and friendly We never return to same hotels as too many in the world but this was a lovely place to relaxMore
