Our favourite resort in the Maldives!
We stayed here six months ago and loved it so much that this time we returned for 18 nights. We had to wait a couple of hours in Male for the seaplane to take us and they stopped off at another resort before flying on to Vilamendhoo. A detached beach villa in the area that we had requested was not available for the first three nights so we started off in a joined beach villa before moving a couple of villa's along to a detached one. We like the south side of the island and have had 232, 234, 235 and 236 and at this time of the year you can see the sunrise and also the sunset. In July you can't see the sunset from the beach in front of your villa. Our room boy, Waseef, did a very good job and was very friendly and helpful. We were given a bottle of red wine and a basket of fruit, a wooden carving of a shell and a t-shirt each as we were repeat guests, so thank you to the management. We also very much appreciated the half bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne that we were given on the first evening. This area of the beach has the perfect balance of beach, sun and shade and is close to the dive centre and the restaurants. It is a very peaceful location. The rooms are spacious with lots of storage space and a lovely modern outside shower room. The bed was very comfortable and the A/C worked well. Toiletries provided were decent (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion). We had two numbered sunbeds just out side of the villa! There was a mini bar with a good selection of drinks including red, white or rose wine which were part of the All Inclusive package. Our verandah had two comfortable chairs on it. Wi fi in the room was adequate for emails, FB etc,but could be slow at times, however it was free! We had to re-boot the modem a few times. There was also wi-fi in the public areas as well. We only ate in the Funama Restaurant and most of the time we ate outside. All of the staff are brilliant there! I really wish that there could be an outside area that was smoke free and also small child free. I know that if you are in a Jacuzzi Water Villa or Jacuzzi Beach Villa your restaurant area is adults only, but I don't want to have a Jacuzzi and I'm really happy with the Beach Villa, I just wish that there could be an adults only section for Beach Villa guests. I realise that it is difficult to have a smoke free area when you are eating, but it would certainly make mealtimes more enjoyable!!! Once again we were lucky enough to have an overnight stay on the Gomofulu yacht looking for whale sharks and manta rays to snorkel with. When the resort gets full and they want to free up some rooms guests can take advantage of the two day excursion. It was totally brilliant. Wonderful crew with so much fun from morning to night. Brilliant meals cooked by the chef, excellent service, sparkling wine in the evening, sunset fishing, surprise beach barbeque. There are only five cabins and we were given No. 5 at the back of the boat which we think is a bit quieter than the other four cabins. The downside of this excursion is that you have to move to a different room when you return to the island, but it's well worth it We did 15 dives with Euro Divers (three of those on the house reef) and we also spent many hours snorkelling the house reef. If you're interested in comparing the diving and the snorkelling go to my You Tube Channel (Gerry Green Diving 'Compare the Diving and Snorkelling at Vilamendhoo Maldives 2017') The arrangements for leaving the island were disappointing. We had been told to arrive at the reception area for 4p.m. for a 4.45 seaplane departure. However, while we were still in our beach clothes at 2.45 we were informed that the sea plane was now going to leave at 3.00 p.m. not leaving us much time to get showered and dressed for the flight home. It also meant that we had an extra two hours waiting in Male airport. Despite any little niggles, it was still a brilliant holiday!More
We had a wonderful time at Vilamendhoo! The snorkeling right off of our beach cabin was amazing. The beach cabin we stayed in was lovely - and had an awesome outdoor bathroom. The chairs on our front deck were comfy, the loungers in front of our cabin were perfect and there was a hammock too. The pools are gorgeous. The food is delicious - the buffet has an amazing amount of food and choices - and it is all very very good! Be prepared though that soft drinks are expensive ($5 USD for a small bottle) and water will add up too, but that was expected. All of the staff were incredible friendly. We did 3 excursions - and couldn't have been happier that we did them. We did the sunset cruise (and saw dolphins!), the sea turtle and manta ray excursions (saw them both!), and the whale shark excursion (saw one too!). We were so lucky in getting to see all of the wildlife on each of our excursions. I would definitely recommend Vilamendhoo!!More
Picture perfect island & amazing staff with a great house reef for snorkeling just steps from your beach bungalow
Such a relaxing, accomodating island and excellent service staff they all provided superior services truly excellent from all! You set your pace and it's hard to leave when it's time to go home. Great house reef for snorkeling you don't need to look past the resort for more as they have it all right there, surreal relaxation & seclusion, good food, superb services even in the the medical clinic the doctor surpassed expectations and went above and beyond to provide a superior service and was equipped to handle the medical situation with ease. With the variety of activities to choose from you can stay busy on excursions at good prices or kick back and enjoy it's beauty in luxury by the pool and poolside drinks are a must! Our dining attendant Ilham & our Bonthi bar waiter were superior in the service they provided what a impact they made on us & so great. Our beach bungalow was steps from amazing clear, warm ocean that you can spend days snorkeling the house reef or beachside watching fruit bats & even saw a variety of sea life from breakfast table and shore all great fun to watch. The all inclusive plus is only way to go & its best value option and a great deal. My pick would be the beachside villa deluxe over all the other rooms they are nice and best locations of all...but bring your own alarm clock it's the only thing we wished we had & our only complaint , some rooms have clocks but very few. Its as close to perfect as a island resorts get- its like a dream & worth the extreme 30hrs it required for us to get there from West coast USA and we would do it again in a second ! Thank you to the staff and the Maldive Islands it was a dream come true!More
