Silver Sands honest review
Before anyone thinks we don't know what to expect etc in Goa this was our 21 visit to goa and we have stayed in hotels, guest houses and apartments during the years so we do know what to expect. We booked a last min holiday with Thomson and were looking forward to a couple of weeks in the Silver Sands in a superior room as we had stayed there on a number of occasions before but not for about 7/8 years. On arrival we were told we would have to wait for our room which we expected but we were pleasantly surprised when after on a few mins they said our room was ready, so great start to our stay. Our stay sort of went down hill after this however ,on first look around it seemed ok but after unpacking my partner went f or a shower and found the bathroom unclean and grimmy. We put this down to the hotel getting the room ready early for us and expected it to be clean properly the next day, how wrong were we. The next day the room wasn't even cleaned and the excuse was the do not disturb sign was on the door, which it was but only till 11am. When had a closer look round the room we started to see how filthy it really was with god knows whats stains on the bed sheets and towels and we even found someone's SNOT on the wall in the shower cubical. That forced us to complain to reception who basically listened the fob us off so i went to management and i made them come and look at the room for themselves. To be fair to the guy he went mad at the staff but it's still his hotel and he should be ensuring rooms are cleaned and bed sheets etc are clean as well. On returning from a day on the beach enjoying my birthday we were just about to shower when goa's infamous power cut struck and after waiting approx 20min we noticed there were AC going in other rooms but wee had no power. Phoned reception about this and they said someone would be round right away, 30 mins later i rang again only to be told they would ring maintenance right away and when i asked why they hadn't done when i originally rang the said they had power in the restaurant and bar/reception so thought we had ours. A guy finally came and stripped the sockets and fuse panel out but couldn't fix it and left leaving us to have a clod shower before he returned to try again. We left him as we were running late now for a birthday meal with friends and told reception about this and to make sure everywhere was cleaned and locked after he was done. On returning that night the good news was there was power but the maintenance man had left all the mess he had made including stripped wires and plaster from the walls all over the place. Next morning we were ringing about the mess that's was left when we noticed although we had power to the lights etc there still none to the water heater so we complained again to reception and after about 1hr with various men looking at it we were told someone was coming from Mapsa to fix as a part was needed which they knew about the day before just never bothered to let us know! nice The power issue finally got sorted only when i tracked down the Thomson rep and made an official complaint, the room was also cleaned more thoroughly and the sheets and towels we unstained but why does it have to be like this. The state of the grounds as well was a disgusting with bottles, plates, food, etc just thrown from other guests rooms on to the grass areas around the blocks and not cleared for days but i blame the guests as much as the hotel for this as they must live like pigs. There were other issues during our stay but these are worst one and from being a hotel we used to recommend i would never stay here again even if it was free, i don't like being lied to and reception did this all the time and the rep even acknowledged this and said they had received many complaints about the hotels hygiene. Shame really as it's in great location and some of the bar staff are brill (Anil - John) but management seemed to have let the standards drop remarkably. It's a 1* charging 3/4* prices and a complete dump.More

Awesome Place at Candolim Beach
Just 50 meters away from the beach, it made an ideal destination for our vacation. Good food, courteous staff and beautifully landscaped resort. Maintenance is periodic. House Keeping takes acre of all the needs. We experienced warm hospitality in everything. Bar, Multi cuisine restaurant, Speciality Indian restaurant and shack on the beach coupled with a good sit out at the entrance of resort is a plus plus. Definitely woukd like to come back.More
This is the second time we have stayed at Silver Sands Holiday Village in Candolim. The hotel is basic and good value with friendly staff. The grounds are lovely and kept clean and tidy. Our room was cleaned every day by Dennis who was great. We had a superior room again which is a good size. The bathroom needs a bit of care and attention but is adequate. Never had a problem with the showers. We stayed bed and breakfast only. Great location, very close to the beach and restaurants on Beach Road and beyond. We didn't stay by the pool as we love Candolim beach and our favourite beach shack. If we should return to Candolim, would definitely book again.More
Grabbed a week in the sun
Some might think the distance travelled from Hastings UK was a bit far for just a week but I feel it was well worth it .What a fantastic location just off the beech. No 5 star but we did not expect it. The room we had was functional and the air con was great just what you need in +35c temps. we found the staff friendly and helpful everything moved at a gentle pace. The swimming pool was well placed in the middle of the apartments and cottages pool towels are available to borrow at the pool. The grounds are green and well kept. We ate at both of the onsite restaurants and found the food of good quality and great value. Breakfast was in a gazebo type building just off the beach serving eggs toast and also one dish each day of local food tea coffee and juice. My only comment was the building is in need of a little TLC considering only 20 years old showing signs of wear and tear. I'm sure we will return one day.More
