The Hotel Santiago is one of those rare hotels that manages to be both central and quiet. It’s set at the end of a peaceful street, which runs directly off the main Baga Calangute Road, where you’ll find all the bars, restaurants and shops you’ll need during your stay. As an added bonus, the property is just a 5-minute walk from the beach.
Accommodation at the hotel is modest. Rooms come with mosaic tile floors, neutral walls and comforts like tea and coffee-making facilities and air conditioning.
The swimming pool is comma-shaped and surrounded by sunloungers. There are plenty of shady areas around the water’s edge, too, where you can keep cool when temperatures spike.
There are 2 restaurants and a snack bar at the property, and the menus pick and mix dishes from all over the world. You could be tucking into Spanish dishes one night and a fiery curry the next.

The Hat Trick at The Santiago
Out third visit here, (Feb 2009, Mar 2010 & Feb 2014). Nice to see the wonderful staff still all here. The wonderful reception team including Janet, the security guys, safe deposit man. The waiting staff, Walter, Pretesh, Nez, Chender, Paul, David, Sam, Hyacinth etc. The food is still very good, with a good choice, this is the only all inclusive I've ever visited where the evening meal comes a la carte from a menu and is waiter service, rather than the usual horrid buffets with an invitation to eat a la carte a few times during your stay. You never get to finish a drink before you are asked if you would like another, or in some cases one is delivered whilst you're not looking! Breakfast wasn't quite as good as before, however with lively Baga on the doorstep, we seldom made breakfast anyway, opting instead for a lie in (after the night before) and rising to take brunch by the pool at 11am, where everything is cooked fresh to order and the omlettes are out of this world! This time we stayed in room 112, previously twice in the room next door in 111. We purposely asked for one of these rooms as it is away from the pool area, near the Thai restaurant/breakfast area so it is quieter and these rooms have an interupted view of chipmunks running around in the trees outside the balconies, rather than people splashing about in the pool after too many Kingfishers! Initially a little disappointed that we didn't get room 111 for a third time, with more windows/natural light 112 proved the better room. That said, the hotel rooms have not changed since our first visit in 2009, and money being spent on them is desperately needed. They are dark and with few low energy lights, throwing out a horrid harsh light against equally dark walls and the few equally dark soft furnishings, it is a rather gloomy affair, even with windows in room 112 on three sides! We celebrated our birthdays whilst there a few weeks back, repeating that of 2009. 2009 the hotel delivered cake, flowers, port wine and birthday cards - this year neither of us received so much as "Happy Birthday!", except for the waiting staff at the pool bless them. We hadn't expected anything in 2009 and it was such a great surprise that perhaps we were wrong to expect the same again. One thing that has changed since we were last here in 2010 is the now obvious Russian presence in both the hotel and the area as a whole. It'll be a few years until we return to Goa and when we do we think we'll head to the South for a change of pace etc. If you're looking for great staff and good food and can overlook the rooms, then give this a try.More

We didn't stay at the Santigo however we did eat in there on occasions. The pool area is clean and relaxing and even if your not a resident you can pay to use the pool and purchase bar snacks and drinks which I must say was very nice and extremely cheap The hotel is set in very pretty surrounding's and from what I saw the hotel is very clean also the staff are excellent The other thing I would like to mention is just outside the hotel is a little jewellers shop called Tiffany's this shop is run by Jack who is one of the most honest and artistic jewellers I have met. I highly recommend this young man . I trust him to the extent of recommending him to many friends and the ones who has purchased jewellery from him are extremely happy with their purchasesMore

Can't wait to go back
Had yet another great two weeks at the Santiago. All the staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you, anything you want you just have to ask. Rajiv (general manager) has a great bunch of people working there who make you want to go back time and time again. There are a few problems as people have said in previous reviews, (basic furniture and road in need of repair) but don't be put off by this, as so many other things are really good. Other people have mentioned the Goan jeweller who rents space in the hotel and I would just like to agree with them, STAY AWAY, we also had jewellery made there and had to get it repaired by Jack who has the shop just outside the hotel, his workmanship is superb and we went back to have more bits and bobs made. All in all we had a great stay and can't wait to return.More
