Lovely holiday - staff lovely and friendly. Rooms were cleaned every day and spacious. This is our second year back and you get what you pay for - a cheap and good holiday with guaranteed sun and heat. Food is really good for the price and bar prices good. Would recommend this to anyone with a larger family as they will accommodate you in the one room and nothing is too much trouble.More

Thomson travellers expect higher standards?

After reading so many great reviews we booked this holiday through Thomson. I believe it's the first holiday season Thomson travellers have used the Sun Apartments? So the majority of reviews have been left by other holiday travellers many who have used the apartments year after year. There's some great things going on that make the place fun for children. The Staff who work there are extremely friendly, do seem to care that you enjoy your holiday and on the whole genuinely seem to like working at the apartments. We were met by Staff on arrival and they helped us carry luggage to room. Our apartment was the furthest away from the pool area which is no problem it's only about 50 metres but NOTE: there's a mosque very, very close by and that equals one thing? A very loud 5am morning chorus that will wake you. I've stayed in Turkey in many places and it's never been a problem but it was at the apartments. It's loud at that time of the morning. On arrival to the room I couldn't turn the air conditioning on. At reception 10 minutes later I parted with around £56 for the privilege of the remote to it! The air conditioning was in the bedroom only. They are large apartments and the air conditioning in August is not adequate for the whole place. The children were very warm at night and uncomfortable at times. Many places I have stayed at that have such large apartments have two units. The first unit is included in the holiday price and if you want the 2nd unit you pay for the privilege. I also think £56 for the hire for 2 weeks is excessive. Bear in mind you're out for most of the day, are not allowed to have the air-con running during the time you're out of the apartment as you will be charged extra. Notice on the wall makes this clear. Only when we complained to the Thomson rep about the cleanliness of the room and ripped towels etc. was there a change. But to the apartments' management's credit, this was sorted promptly and this improved. Our mattresses were not good, they were worn beyond their normal life, torn in places, one was mouldy....but again upon complaint they were changed and again to the management's credit in the main bedroom the twin bed mattresses were replaced with brand new. Hot water for showering was a daily problem and it never improved upon complaining really. We like spending time by the pool with the kids, so were probably last away on most days. The hot water was gone by the time we had a shower. Probably down to the storage tank not being large enough for the apartment usage during the kid’s holidays. Everywhere else I've stayed it's not been a problem. It won't be for you, if you change your habits and make sure you're away and showering for 5 as by 6.30 it's tepid to cold. Every night there's something on entertainment wise. The kids loved the evening stuff, and the dancing routine is repetitive but did make us all laugh, mainly at others but hey we got up and did our bit and I'm sure we looked just as funny. Listen out for Sweet Caroline on the karaoke by Roberto..priceless. The pool area has a half board option and we were offered this almost on arrival. My advice would be to save your money. The restaurants are a few minute’s walk away and offer a far superior taste and menu. Kids are often half price with maybe one for free. They want your custom and so will discount the price. I thoroughly recommend Summer Breeze (probably the best food in Marmaris?) or September Bar. So many to choose from and the food at Sun Apartments does not compare unfortunately. I had a meat kebab and the meat tasted extremely poor quality. Also ordered a kids spaghetti Bolognese. This turned up as fried mince on boiled pasta spaghetti. (No I’m not exaggerating). This was returned promptly and we chose chicken nuggets and chips. Always a safe-ish bet! You can also hire a TV and DVD player which we did. Kids like to watch it in the morning and I'm on holiday so like a lie -in. Problem is you can only watch DVD's as there's no reception! We were told when I enquired where the lead to the wall output was. Other places I've stayed have at least a music channel. So then you have to buy DVDs. Not really a problem because £10 will get you 8 of the latest movies which although copies were of a decent quality picture and sound. The pool area was relatively clean and compared to some places getting a sun bed wasn't too much of a drama. Yes the towel brigade have been out at a sparrows fart to then appear about 2pm for an hour at the pool but there were spares ones dotted about that you could move to a convenient area. Only thing I'd say is that the pool is about 6ft deep in ALL areas, so kids that can't swim may be limited to the kid’s pool which is more of a 1ft deep area just bigger than a large bath. Luckily all our kids could swim so they loved the pool which was clean and warm. The apartments have an on-site photographer who also does the Bingo and other entertainment. He takes some great photos and of course would like you to buy the DVD at end of your holiday. I declined because it's just not something I would buy just to sit in the cupboard draw at home. But there was no problem. I don't think he was overjoyed at my decision but there was no hassle to his credit. So if I were to sum it up I'd say this: The apartments are large and are kept clean mainly. The place has too many short comings for us to return again, but if you do go then you should find the Staff friendly and good fun. The kids will enjoy it probably more than the adults but that said I did enjoy my holiday there once the unacceptable bedding, cleaning standards were improved. The Thomson girl who attended infrequently was friendly and sorted problems immediately. This made me give a 3 star review in what would have been a 2 star.More
