"Eski Datca means old Datca, and this was the original, inland village just up the road from the pretty harbour town of Datca. Picturesque, crooked, stone houses line the narrow, cobbled streets, and the village exudes charm and tranquility. A small picture gallery and a bar make quiet places to gather, and the restaurants of Datca are close by."
Eski Datca is set on a stunning, pine-clad peninsular where you can wander through unspoilt villages and catch vistas of the deep blue Aegean as you switch back and forth on the road. At the far tip lie the ruins of Knidos, once a wealthy city, famous for its statue of Aphrodite, the world's first naked statue of a woman. Daily ferries run from Datca to Bodrum, two hours away, and you can hop on a boat to visit uncrowded beaches along the coast. There's a regular bus service to Datca – make sure you jump aboard on a Saturday for the weekly market where locals sell almonds, honey and thyme.
