Hotel Aydos

With its unique setting on a beautiful river delta, it is no surprise that the charming village of Dalyan has become a perennial favourite with our guests and other discerning travellers. We were therefore delighted to discover the Hotel Aydos, which offers a location that is as scenic as any of Dalyan's more centrally-located hotels, but which also boasts a level of comfort and style that few other properties in the village can match. From the moment you enter the pretty reception, you cannot but be impressed by the attention to detail throughout the hotel, and by the professional yet friendly atmosphere created by the manager Rahmi and his enthusiastic staff.

Hotel Aydos is peacefully situated on the edge of the village, approximately 15 minutes' walk from the bustling centre. Its lovingly tended gardens, complete with Turkish kosk and garden swing seat, lead right down to the riverbank and afford splendid views over the tranquil waters of the river across to the caramel-coloured rocks on the other Side. A daily complimentary riverboat service from the hotel's own jetty to the soft, golden sands of Iztuzu Beach is provided for our guests, but there is considerably less boat traffic than further downstream to disturb your peace as you relax by the hotel's gorgeous, mosaic-tiled swimming pool.

Accommodation at Hotel Aydos is in 21 spacious, split-level suites arranged in a V-shape around a pretty, flower-filled courtyard, opening towards the river. Each comprises a bedroom that can be arranged as a double or a twin, a well-appointed shower room complete with a power shower and hairdryer, and a small entrance hall with stairs leading up to a cosy sitting room under the eaves. With a seating area consisting of either two armchairs or a two-seater settee, and sofa beds that can be provided as necessary to accommodate families, the suites offer additional space and comfort due to this generous layout. Ceramic floor tiles, colourful kilims and well-chosen fabrics lend a very homely feel to each suite, while such extras as a minibar and air-conditioning in all the bedrooms add further to your comfort. Each suite also has a small decorative French balcony off the living room and a garden terrace, accessed from the bedroom.

Days at Hotel Aydos get off to a good start with a wholesome buffet breakfast served around the pool. Dinner is also served around the large, freeform swimming pool. Rahmi arranges seafood nights, Turkish evenings and a whole host of activities for our guests. Those who do wish to explore Dalyan can enjoy the 15-minute stroll into the village by the riverside walk. Those who simply cannot tear themselves away from the swimming pool will find a range of snacks available throughout the day from the charming pool bar. Stone-built and covered in reeds from the Dalyan river, the bar is also an extremely inviting spot for a nightcap and a chat with your fellow holidaymakers.
